ADP Certified Specialist

When deciding on a solution to implement or optimize your ADP Workforce Now system, always verify the individual doing the work is a Certified Specialist. ADP offers three certifications in Workforce Now: Payroll, Time & Attendance, and Human Resources.

Rest assured, when you work with me, I have all three certifications. These certifications validate my knowledge on the Workforce Now system.

Associate ID, Position ID, and File Number: What do they mean?

So often clients ask me the difference between Associate ID, Position ID, and File Number. All three are different and have unique purposes in your Workforce Now system.

  • Associate ID: This is unique to the employee. Each employee is in your database one time, even if they work in multiple companies or have multiple jobs. The Associate ID is also used for security purposes. You should never publish Associate IDs or include them on reports. You should never manually change them; they should be random-generated characters from ADP to ensure the security of each employee's data.
  • Position ID: This is a unique field for each position an employee has within a company. Position ID is used for imports/exports and is best suited for connecting data to external systems as well. The Position ID is a concatenation of the ADP Company Code & the File Number. It is nine alphanumeric characters. Position IDs ending with a N indicate the position is not paid through Workforce Now.
  • File Number: This six-digit numeric ID is unique to a position within a company for a specific employee. This number is used for payroll purposes. While the file number is unique to a company code, it is not unique to your database.

U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Proposes Increase to Minimum Salary for Exempt Employees

On Aug. 30, 2023, the United States Department of Labor (DOL) released its highly anticipated proposed overtime rule. This rule, if finalized, would increase the minimum salary amount required to be paid to executive, administrative and professional (EAP) employees and the required annual compensation to be paid to highly compensated employees (HCEs) in order for these employees to be considered exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime pay requirements. The DOL is also proposing automatic updates to these amounts every three years.

The proposed rule does not include any changes to the standard duties test used to distinguish between FLSA-exempt and non-exempt employees. The DOL estimates that 3.6 million workers exempt from FLSA overtime under the current regulations would become newly entitled to overtime protection under the FLSA.
