Strategic Plan & Membership Update: Building for the future

The Westshore Alliance Strategic Plan is our guide to navigating the next ten years of growth and development in Westshore. Each year, we plan to meet benchmarks that match our mission of making Westshore a premier mixed-use district.

We are on pace to accomplish our 2023 goals. You can visit our Strategic Plan website to read more. Two of our completed successes, an updated Master Plan and our first community event at World Car Free Day, are included below in this newsletter.

Our Strategic Plan has allowed us to design a new membership structure that is focused on member’s needs. This restructuring will better serve our members by offering an opportunity to identify what benefits you want and how to get the most out of your investment in the Westshore Alliance.

The new membership structure is available now for new members and will be effective for members who renew for January 2024. If you have any questions about our initiatives and how your company can invest in the future of Westshore, please contact us.

Westshore Master Plan amendments approved by Tampa City Council

The Tampa City Council approved the Westshore Overlay and Master Plan amendments on September 21. The Westshore Alliance Master Plan Committee started working on the amendments in 2020. The amendments support the development of Westshore as a live, work, and play community. One example is the addition of the Gray Street Bicycle Boulevard, which will connect the future WestShore Plaza development to the Tampa Riverwalk and Courtney Campbell and Howard Frankland Trails.

World Car Free Day a Success

On September 23^rd, Tampa held its first World Car Free Day, joining hundreds of cities worldwide in a day dedicated to learning more about a car-free lifestyle. The Alliance, along with community partners Walk Bike Tampa and the Tampa Downtown Partnership, participated in the citywide festivities with an family-friendly gathering at Midtown Tampa. Midtown was electric with activity by closing down Midtown Drive, converting it into a chalk art zone and including other bicycle friendly activities. Mayor Jane Castor paid a visit to celebrate this important day. Thank you to all members who attended and help made the event a success. A special thank you to our partners at Midtown Tampa, Franklin Street and Atkins for their contributions to Westshore’s World Car Free Day activities.
