A Word From the Kids

"The reason why I love the Choir School is that we all get to come together and bond on one thing, which is music. And I think that's an absolutely beautiful thing because we're all striving for one end goal, which is to work hard on a production or a concert. Through that, I get to bond with other people and make such great connections and friendships."

Voice Lessons at the Choir School

More students than ever before have been enjoying private voice lessons with Mr. Malcolm and Ms. Sophia! 15 students will be featured in solo numbers and small groups at the Cabaret. They have been working diligently on their solos with their teachers.

A typical voice lesson at the Choir School includes:

  • Vocal warmups designed to address elements that students are working on in their technique or repertoire
  • Coaching on pitch and rhythm, and music literacy development
  • Techniques for healthy vocal production
  • Stylistic choices for timbre, dynamics, and more
  • Guidance on telling the story, conveying emotion, and stage presence
  • And more! Each lesson is fully customized to serve each student, their goals, and their growth.

Thanks to the Choir School's generous supporters, lessons are 100% free for after-school program participants. Singing lessons typically cost $50-$80 per hour, which would be a prohibitive cost for most of the families we serve. We are proud to remove that barrier to access so that all talented students can develop their artistry.

We’re proud to join communities across America in celebrating Lights On Afterschool on Thursday, October 26, 2023! There’s lots to celebrate: afterschool programs like the Choir School keep kids safe, inspire them to learn & grow, and give parents peace of mind.

Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The Afterschool Alliance organizes this event to draw attention to the ways afterschool programs support students and families. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.

All are welcome at the Choir School's celebration!

We hope to see you and your family for this fun event!

Thank you for a successful Board Challenge!

Thanks to generous supporters like you, the Choir School met our goal of raising over $40,000 during our Board Matching Challenge! We've all heard the proverb that "it takes a village to raise a child," and we are lucky to have one of the strongest villages around to support our students. We are grateful for you!
