It's That Time! Register to Join the Michigan Delegation at the 2025 Int’l Mass Timber Conference

Each year, we organize a Michigan delegation to the International Mass Timber Conference in Portland, Oregon. This is the premiere mass timber event with an enormous industry expo, fantastic educational programming, and tour of mass timber buildings, manufacturing facilities, and forests. Our Michigan group always comes back with new ideas and information, along with new partnerships to advance Michigan mass timber momentum. Please join us this year!  

 

To register for the 2025 International Mass Timber Conference, please start with this link. Scroll down, choose the appropriate pass for you, and click the green "Register" button for that window. At the pay window, use the code IMTC25MSUGROUP10 to save 10% off your General Full Pass or 1-Day Pass. For lowered government, student, and non-profit rates, please register using your .mil, .gov, .edu, or .org email address. PLEASE NOTE: Since Edu/Gov/NPO passes and Student passes are already heavily discounted, they are not eligible for the group discount.

Join us for lunch—provided by Walbridge—as we explore mass timber innovations and ongoing projects in Michigan, and share findings from recent supply and demand surveys. After lunch, we'll tour the new mass timber DNR building in Newberry before its official opening later this year!

MSU PhD Student Shares Mass Timber Adhesives Research at Polyurethanes Technical Conference in Atlanta 

Manasseh Tetteh, a PhD student in the Green Bioproducts Science and Engineering Research Lab at MSU, attended the 2024 Polyurethanes Technical Conference in Atlanta this week to share the results of research conducted in Mojgan Nejad's, Associate Professor of Green Biomaterials, lab which focuses on developing and testing mass timber adhesives and coatings made from lignin—a byproduct of the forest products and agriculture industries. Manasseh was awarded best poster given in the sustainability poster session.

A recent UPword article highlights the efforts of MassTimber@MSU and initiatives at Michigan Technological University that are driving research and innovation in mass timber technologies, industry, policy, and community. With more than 50 mass timber projects already in the pipeline, we aim to continue building on this progress, with the goal of realizing Michigan mass timber production using Michigan timber.

“We want to see mass timber production happening in the state of Michigan.” Sandra Lupien emphasizes Michigan's potential to lead in this sustainable construction movement in a new piece by Matt King in Belt Magazine, touching on the research and collaborative efforts we’re pursuing alongside Michigan Tech. Raju Pokharel, MassTimber@MSU collaborator and assistant professor of forest resource economics at MSU, also states “mass timber actually increases sustainability. Right now, our forests are degrading because we don’t have the money to manage them properly."
