Ten women from our community are making the difference

Ten women from the Nosara Community that were unemployed and seeking for work, are now the main workers of the Recycling and Education Center of Nosara. They are subsidized by a governmental bonus from the Instituto Mixto de Ayuda Social (IMAS). Yeilin Arrieta, Maritza Juarez, Evelyn Delgado, Maria Estebana Hernandez, Flory Delgado, Andreina Hernandez, Geyling Azofeifa, Wendy Salazar, Ana Maria Lopez, Yolanda Lopez  are being trained on how to properly separate and to classify the recyclables at the center and educate the community of Nosara about Recycling. These are some of the initiatives they are working on:
-Visiting businesses and going house by house spreading the word about the project and  educating the people on the proper separation of waste. 
-Beach and community cleanups
-Creating organic compost at the Center
-Creating crafts from recyclable material
-Preparing a play about "recycling" for local schools.

 Grant for the Center to become fully operational

Thanks to a matching grant of $15,000 from CRUSA Foundation (Costa Rica-United States), through their Guanacaste Fund,   the Recycling and Education Center will be fully operational. This matching grant  will allow us to finally bring electricity and water to the building. The grant was matched by $15,0000 in donations from the community.

Wednesdays for recollection of recyclables

Centro de Acopio y Aula Ambiental.

Every other Wednesday we are collecting recyclables. Please place all your recyclables (plastic and glass bottles, tetrapack, aluminum, cardboard and paper) in a transparent bag. The recyclables must be clean and dry. The collection truck will start its route from Super Dos Lorenas in La Esperanza to La Boca of the Nosara River, the Nosara town is also included.  You can also bring the recyclable material to the Center which is at the entrance of the Nosara dump.

Cleaning of the containers at the entrances to the beach

The Recycling Association together with different businesses are making sure that the containers at both  entrances to Guiones beach are kept clean and organized. Thanks to the help of Bagelmen's, Agua Tibia Surf School, Harbor Reef Lodge Nosara, Costa Rica, Nosara Tico Surf School, Beach Dog Cafe, Harmony Hotel, Toyota Rental, Coconut Harry's Surf Shop and Surf School, Cacho surfschool,The Frog Pad, Kai Cafe & Sushi Nosara(Living Hotel), El Punto Surf Shop, KayaSol Surf Hotel, Pacifico Azul, Guiones Adventures, Re/Max Nosara First Choice Realty and Nine North Surf Co. Guiones beach will now have a new face for tourists and resident

Raffle for those who take their recyclables to the center
The Recycling Center  will hold a  raffle the last Sunday of every month, for people who brought  their recyclables to the center. The winning number will be according to la Loteria Nacional. We are looking for businesses or individuals willing to sponsor the prize for each month. The first prize will be raffled Sunday, October 27th.
