PMG Visits Copiah-Lincoln Community College

This month, our Client Solutions team visited technical schools and manufacturers to see what manufacturing looks like firsthand. Ashleigh, one of PMG’s remote Client Solutions Managers, visited Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Co-Lin) in Mississippi, one of America’s exceptional collegiate institutions.

Co-Lin was established in 1915 as an agricultural high school in Wesson, Mississippi. Over time, it grew to become a junior college and eventually a community college in 1988. Co-Lin serves approximately 3100 students across its three campuses and is recognized as a top 150 community college by Aspen Institute.

On her visit, Ashleigh met with instructors from Co-Lin’s machining, welding, automation and controls, HVAC and diesel mechanic programs. “I was pleased to see the amount they teach their students,” said Ashleigh. “It’s a great rural community school where students are traveling to the campus to get their education.”

After her time on campus, Ashleigh noted several standout manufacturing-based programs and how Co-Lin is making sure students graduating from these programs are ready for the workforce. The machining students are trained on manual and CNC machines, learn programming and often pursue part-time manufacturing work in the summer months. Programs such as welding are not only teaching the technical skills needed, but also the work ethic manufacturers expect from their workforce. “Co-Lin is constantly speaking with recruiters and trying to implement their advice into their curriculum,” said Ashleigh. “They’re trying to get all the kinks that manufacturers try to get out of technicians in year one, while they’re still in school.”

As PMG continues to strengthen its relations with leading technical schools and community colleges across the nation, Co-Lin has become a valued partner of PMG. We’re excited to continue to grow this relationship and discover how we can serve and benefit one another.

We'll highlight what soft skills manufacturing companies are looking for in their workforce and why these skills are important. We'll also cover how to make sure these skills stand out on your resume and in your interview.
