October 2020
"Keep Your Joy!"
“The joy of the Lord is my strength.” Nehemiah 8:10

The year 2020 has posed some unique difficulties with coronavirus, riots, and political tensions. If you want to get upset, all you need to do is watch too much news. Adversity is nothing new for many Americans, but the busy or even chaotic lives that people lead took on new challenges with the guidelines of sanitation, masks, and social distancing, along with decisions about whether to hold activities and events, and if so, under what conditions.

For Christians, we’ve needed to decide about church involvement, as well as how to connect to others with a faith that undergirds us and offers hope to those that need support and maybe even need Christ as their Lord and Savior. We celebrate the development of our online ministries on Facebook and our church website. But still, these are unsettling times and you get the feeling that the mood in our society overall carries a lot of frustration and apprehension. To encourage us in our spiritual battles, I’m preaching a series entitled “Seven Things That Steal your Joy,” based off a book written by Joyce Meyer with that title. For seven weeks we are focusing on Joy Stealers. So far we’ve covered the works of the flesh, religious legalism and complicating simple issues.

As we turn to Scripture for instruction and guidance we find needed counsel for our emotional health. Paul even instructs us to “Rejoice in the Lord always!” He said it twice- "Again I say rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4) The devil wants to take away our joy so he can weaken us. We may not always be able to have happiness, but we can always have joy in our hearts. We look to our personal relationship with Jesus for the joy of salvation. Paul refers to that as a helmet of salvation in Ephesians 6. Let’s keep our helmets on! You might get hit in the head these days with all the falling debris, metaphorically speaking. May the joy of the Lord be your strength.

In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Mo

Fill a Shoe Box and share the Joy of Christmas with a child!
It's Shoe Box Time!
How to Pack a Shoe Box
Start with a quality “wow” item such as a stuffed animal, soccer ball with pump, or clothing outfit that will capture the child’s attention the instant he or she opens the box. Click here for other gift suggestions listed by age and gender. Do not include: Candy; toothpaste; gum; used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

From the very beginning of your preparations, be sure to pray for the children who will receive your shoebox gifts. Ask God to prepare their hearts to receive His love and to specifically guide you as you shop and pack to put just what each child needs in their shoebox. Before you send them, pray again asking the Lord Jesus Christ to draw each recipient to Himself.

HEARING PROBLEM

A concerned husband went to a doctor to talk about his wife. "Doctor, I'm worried. I think my wife is deaf because she never hears me the first time and always asks me to repeat things."

"Well," the doctor replied, "go home and tonight stand about 15 feet from her and say something to her. If she doesn't reply move about 5 feet closer and say it again. Keep doing this so that we'll get an idea about the severity of her deafness."

Sure enough, the husband goes home and does exactly as instructed. He starts off about 15 feet from his wife in the kitchen as she is chopping some vegetables and says, "Honey, what's for dinner?" He hears no response. He moves about 5 feet closer and asks again. No reply. He moves 5 feet closer. Still no reply. He gets fed up and moves right behind her, about an inch away, and asks again, "Honey, what's for dinner?"

She replies, "For the fourth time, vegetable stew!"
