Thank you to all of our Yellow Tulip planters!

Greenwich Together wants to thank all of our volunteers for coming to plant our HOPE Gardens. Even on a rainy gloomy day we had over 40 volunteers plus our amazing Greenwich Parks & Rec crew come out to plant 1,000 tulip bulbs across 10 locations in town. We gathered at Cos Cob Elementary school with our rain jackets and umbrellas to hear from Kathy Steiner- GHS Health Educator, GHS Outreach Club Youth, Emily Sedgwick- Yellow Tulip Youth & GT Youth Coalition Member, Stephen Mesker's-State Representative and Darrin Wigglesworth- Greenwich Parks & Rec. Once they helped fuel our spirits by reminding us why we are gathered for our Yellow Tulip planting we were sent off to plant with full stomachs from our generous donations from Aux Delice and Mike's Organic. What a way to show our community the importance of mental health awareness!

Keep your eyes out in the spring for our Hope Day event to celebrate the blooming of our tulips and continue to raise awareness and smash the stigma around mental health challenges!

Today, I am concentrating on three steps to help protect our kids from the downsides of social media and overall screen time, especially given the prevalence of violence, misinformation, and distressing content right now.

Many teens feel that staying well-informed is a sign of solidarity and is the right thing to do. However, there are many cracks in this logic. While there is no need to contest their thoughts on this directly, it is important to create safeguards around what and how much every child, young and old, is seeing.

5 Things You Need to Know About Youth Vaping

Now is an important time for parents and schools to address youth nicotine use. Recent research shows that youth vaping, which is still at epidemic levels, was significantly impacted as students spent more time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic and had less retail access to e-cigarettes and opportunities to share e-cigarettes with others. Now that many young people are back in school and reunited with classmates, they may be more exposed to the harms of nicotine.

Parents and schools have important roles to play in reaching students with the information they need to make informed choices, as well as tools to quit if they are already vaping. Here are some of the most important things parents should know about youth vaping and nicotine use.
