Dr. Asli Aslan, Director of the Institute Water & Health at Georgia Southern University in Savannah, GA is interested in connecting with groups working on assessing impacts of inundation after Hurricane Milton.
From Dr. Aslan: Our labs are in Savannah, and we provide water quality testing (from microbes to chemicals) and microbial source tracking services. Our methods are EPA-approved and we also use molecular techniques to provide same-day results during emergencies.

Participatory Budgeting: A Community-Led Intervention for Resource Security Following a Disaster
This article published by the Natural Hazards Center explains the benefits of participatory budgeting based on a case study in Corcovada, Puerto Rico. In this case study, residents of Corcovada used participatory budgeting, a democratic model for budget decision-making, to address challenges related to food, energy, water, and public health. The team also developed a Participatory Budget Project Guide as a model for use in other communities.

Rural Water Loan Fund (RWLF)
The Rural Water Loan Fund (RWLF) is a funding program specifically designed to meet the unique needs of small water and wastewater utilities. The RWLF provides low-cost loans for short-term repair costs, small capital projects, or pre-development costs associated with larger projects. The RWLF was established through a grant from the USDA/RUS, and repaid funds used to replenish the fund and make new loans. Disaster recovery or other emergency loans are available. Loan amounts may not exceed $200,000 or 75% of the total project cost, whichever is less.
Climate Capital Guidebook | The White House
The Climate Capital Guidebook aggregates current federal funding opportunities for small- and medium-sized companies, both start-ups and established businesses, focusing on clean energy technologies and other climate solutions. The Guidebook also notes which programs are part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Justice40 Initiative. Each program is accompanied by a summary of the eligible entities, eligible projects, average deal or award size, application timeline, contact information, and additional useful information.
ASFPM Foundation Future Leaders Scholarship
The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) Foundation Future Leaders Scholarship is up to $20,000 per year for two years available to a student entering their junior year in a 4-year undergraduate degree program or entering the last two years of a 5-year or dual degree undergraduate program and studying in a field related to floods and flood management.

Association of State Floodplain Managers: Call for Abstracts
The Call for Abstracts seeks professionals to submit for 30-minute concurrent sessions and/or 2-4 hour workshops that address the broad range of floodplain management issues, such as communicating flood risk, flood loss reduction, flood modeling and mapping, NFIP and flood insurance, policy, environmental justice and equity, tribal communities and sovereignty, arid regions considerations, success stories, stormwater management, climate change, and natural and beneficial floodplain functions.

Natural Hazards Center: Disability and Disasters Award
The Disability and Disasters Award supports people with disabilities working in disasters, as well as those who care for, study, or advocate on behalf of those with disabilities. Award funds will allow the recipient to attend the annual Natural Hazards Workshop and the Researchers or Practitioners Meetings that follow. Recipients of this award will be recognized at the Workshop and will be asked to present a poster or to serve as panelists, where they can highlight their research and/or practical experiences with disability and disasters. (Applications due December 2)
Natural Hazards Center: Mary Fran Myers Scholarship
The Mary Fran Myers Scholarship recognizes outstanding individuals who share Myers' commitment to disaster research and practice and have the potential to make a lasting contribution to reducing disaster vulnerability. At least one scholarship recipient each year will receive financial support allowing them to attend the Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop. Scholarships can cover part or all of transportation, meals, lodging, and Workshop registration costs.Recipients are recognized at the Workshop and will be asked to present a poster or to serve as panelists, where they can highlight their research or practical experiences with hazards and disasters. The goal of the TCTAC Program is to remove institutional barriers and to improve accessibility to federal funding for disinvested communities impacted by decades of structural environmental injustice and are already doing essential environmental and energy justice work.
