October 15 , closing time changes to 7:00 p.m. at Harris Lake County Park
(Mountain bikers and Disc Golfers must be off the trails/course by 6:45 p.m.)
and the New Hill parking area of the American Tobacco Trail will close at 6:30 p.m.
(please make sure you are out of the gates by closing time!)

Halloween Around the World



This year our wagon ride will take you on a journey to 7 countries while back at
the shelters, you may visit with live animals, touch a snake, create cool crafts,
play games on the pumpkin pass, climb through a spider web,
challenge yourself on an obstacle course and more.

The Wake County Animal Center will be on site with adoptable pets!
 
The New Hill Community Center will be selling snacks and drinks!

rules for getting free tickets for the wagon ride!

Tickets are limited to 36 people per ride and are first-come, first-served.
Tickets will be available at 12:30 p.m. for the rides at 1, 130, 2, 230 and 3 and
at 3:00 pm for the rides at 330, 4, 430, 5 and 530.
Please make sure you are aware of all the wagon ride rules on the website.

New this year -The Carolina Children’s Museum is proud to sponsor a fun costume parade at 4 p.m. that you do not want to miss! Wear your best Halloween costume! No need to sign up in advance,
just meet near the restrooms at 4:00 p.m.
Wake County voters will have the opportunity to decide on a $120 million, six-year bond for open space preservation, greenways, new park and nature preserve construction
and existing park renovations.

Kids Discover Nature: “ Pumpkin Circle
Monday, October 8; 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
For ages 1-6; $4 per child
Meet at the Cypress Shelter
“We can be sure of this: It’s a circle without end. It’s pumpkin seeds to pumpkins to pumpkin seeds again!” Get ready for fall by learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin through George Levenson’s  Pumpkin Circle: The Story of a Garden , then plant a pumpkin seed to take home to watch it grow. .

Pumpkin Carving Wagon Ride
Saturday, October 27; 1–3 p.m.
For all ages, $2 per person
Meet at the Loblolly Shelter
Celebrate the season with a wagon ride along the back roads of our park to search for a hidden pumpkin, then return to the Loblolly Shelter to carve a Halloween masterpiece with your family. Each family will be limited to one pumpkin. (You may bring additional pumpkins of your own to carve.)

Nature Lab: Halloween Wildlife
Wednesday, October 31; 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
For ages 7-12, $12 per person
Meet at the Cypress Shelter
Spiders, bats and owls, oh my! Have fun learning about these not-so-scary animals through a
boo-tiful morning at the park. After our activities, we’ll wrap up with lunch under the shelter. Bring a snack, light lunch and full water bottle. This is a kids drop off program.

Citizen Science Thursday - Volunteer Opportunity
Thursday, October 25; 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
For ages 10 and up; Free
Meet at the Cypress Shelter
Volunteer your time with our monitoring and citizen science projects. We will be cleaning and repairing habitat boxes. Come prepared to learn and work as you help us manage our natural resources.
Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves and a water bottle .
All participants must have a signed Volunteer Release and be registered in our online system.

White Oak Garden Workday
Saturday, October 13; 10 - 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. - noon
Free for ages 4 and up
Meet at the White Oak Church Rd. parking area
Volunteer your time in our White Oak gardens. Tasks will vary depending on what needs attention,
but you can be prepared for weed pulling and pruning.
Come help us manage our educational gardens. Bring a water bottle and your own work gloves
if you have them and wear closed-toe shoes.
Meet at the White Oak parking area (1305 White Oak Church Road, Apex)

10-Miler Race on the ATT
Saturday, October 27, 7 a.m.–1 p.m.
Please be aware there will be over 400 racers for this event. Race will be based out of the
White Oak Church parking area.
This event is Sponsored by the NC Roadrunners Club.

Harris Lake County Park Playground Renovation:
October 8 - December 31
The playground will be closed during this time. Please do not enter this area
or allow your child to access this area while under construction.
The Natural Play Area, located next to the Restroom Building,
will remain open throughout this time.
We hope you are looking forward to a new and updated playground!
Construction Notice update for the ATT
Work is proposed to take place on the ATT  
near the Highway 64 tunnel in Wake County  until Friday
October 12 between the hours of 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
Overnight use in this area is prohibited during construction.
