EVENTS AND TENNIS NEWS for ROCKINGHAM COUNTY NC - OCTOBER 2016

Here's where we're serving up tennis in Rockingham County in October:
  • Kids Tennis Clubs are on the courts at 4 Rockingham County Schools.  
  • Ten ladies are learning to play the game in the first USTA Southern Tennis Apprentice Class at Rockingham Community College.
  • Meet RC Tennis "on the road" at four Rockingham County Fall Festivals.
  • Register your young player for their first Round Robin Junior tournament at Jaycee Park in Reidsville on Sunday October 9.
RCS KIDS TENNIS CLUBS MEET AT FOUR SCHOOLS

We're meeting RCS students and PE Teachers on the playground courts and gyms of four schools this fall for after school USTA Kids Tennis Clubs
  1. Susan Carter is hosting 7 middle school girls on the playground courts at Holmes Middle School in Eden.
  2. Sylvia Asnip has filled Bethany Elementary's 4 playground courts with 22 fourth and fifth graders.  
  3. At South End Elementary school in Reidsville, Rob Joyce has 22 second graders playing tennis in the gym and outside on the playgrounds.  
  4. In Eden, 12 Draper Elementary Bull Dogs from grades 3-5 are enjoying playing tennis for the first time with PE Teacher Patrick Sullivan and fourth grade teacher Amy Jamison.  A few more Bull Dogs are giving tennis a try for the first time at with Mr. George at "the Rec" on Wednesday afternoons in October.
With a "word of the week", tennis vocabulary and on court fun games and skill development, we're creating the next generation of Rockingham County tennis players right outside the classroom door. 
ADULT TENNIS APPRENTICE CLASS at RCC IS A SMASH HIT

The first USTA Southern Tennis Apprentice class is a SMASH HIT.  Ten Rockingham County ladies meet Caleb Shelton for six Saturday morning this fall on the courts at Rockingham Community College to learn and polish their tennis skills.  Watch for news of a Winter USTA Adult Beginner League to join them on the indoor courts at Western Rockingham YMCA to continue the fun.


TENNIS FUN AT ROCKINGHAM COUNTY FALL FESTIVALS
RC Tennis is "on the road" this month.  Meet our Executive Director, Shelby Rhyne, coaches and volunteers at FOUR Rockingham County Festivals in Saturdays in October to give tennis a try.  Join us on our "courts" for fun family tennis activities.  It's never been easier for families to find themselves in the game.

Saturday October 8 at "What the Hay" in Mayodan from 10-12N across from the carnival rides.
Saturday October 15 at Wentworth Elementary's County Fair from 4-6pm on the playground courts.
Saturday October 22 at Central Elementary's PTO Fall Festival on Morehead HS courts.
Saturday October 29 at New Vision School PTO Fall Festival outdoors on their Madison campus. 
    
       
FALL RC TENNIS JUNIOR ROBIN TOURNAMENT OPEN TO ALL
Twenty-one young players age 6-15 have joined our Sunday afternoon USTA Junior Team Tennis (JTT) program this fall.  We wrap up our season with a USTA Level 6 junior tournament at Jaycee Park on Sunday October 9.  All USTA junior members are welcome to register and join us for this one-day, fun round robin singles tournament.  We'll celebrate the end of the season with a pizza party afterwards.

Click here for details to register your player for the tournament event only.  Tournament registration fee is $15.  USTA youth membership required.   Note:  All Fall JTT players are already registered for this event.
