RIF RAP -- October 2025

Book It For Books + Sponsorships from You

= Books For Kids = AMAZING!!!

We are still seeking sponsors for our Book It For Books 10K/5K/One-Mile/Virtual Run and Walk. October 25 is the date, and Lake Accotink Park in Fairfax County is the place for the this biannual RIF NOVA fun- and fundraiser! Some of our recent sponsors are listed below.

A really cool t-shirt is in store for race-day participants! If you would like to have your name or logo on the shirt (Paperback level sponsor and above), we need to hear from you no later than October 10! Thank YOU! The sponsorship link may be found by clicking here.

Want to get in a Book It For Books kinda mood? How about this! Eat for a cause at Vienna's Bear Branch Tavern on October 15! And who doesn't want to taste the first-of-its-kind signature cocktail -- "The Clifford," named in honor of our mascot, Clifford the Big Red Dog. Hope to see you there!

Speaking of...Clifford has been breaking in his running shoes at Lake Accotink Park to get in shape for the race. What a great spot to meet NBC4 reporter Ted Oberg, listen to Vienna's School of Rock music, get your face painted, pick some children's books, and run or walk. There will even be a Kendra Scott pop-up for some pre-holiday shopping! Families with children and teams are welcome! Sign up to take part by clicking here!

RIF NOVA Adds a New School!

RIF NOVA is delighted to welcome a brand new school -- Braddock Elementary -- into the family of schools we support. In a welcome kick-off event called "EGG-Cited about Soaring into Science with Reading," the school's Eagle mascot, RIF NOVA mascot Clifford, Mrs. Virginia 2023, representatives from the Fairfax County school board, and a host of Braddock teachers and RIF NOVA board members gathered in a packed cafeteria of third graders, followed by classroom visits for more science book picking! Please see additional photos of the day by clicking here.

About Town

The Carlin Springs Elementary PTA held a "Welcome Back Party" for students and families and invited RIF NOVA to bring books from our Donated Books program to the celebration. Of course, we were delighted to do so, led by our mascot Clifford. As children chose books to take home to keep, they were happy to pose with their new reading materials. One girl was so excited because she found a Baby-Sitters Club title she had not been able to find in her library. Clifford himself chose a book of his own -- not surprisingly about a dog!

Cunningham Park Elementary held a "Bedtime Stories" event to welcome students and parents back to school. Before the event, books from the RIF NOVA Donated Books program were assembled into give-away bags, with three or four books in each. Clad in pajamas with blankets and stuffies, the children listened as some of their teachers read bedtime stories. Then, parents were invited to take a bag of donated books and get down to reading business! What a fun way to cozy up with a good book!

Melissa Yost collected and donated six boxes of books to RIF NOVA. Her dog Millie was quite protective of this literary haul! Good dog, Millie!
