Twenty bestselling and debut authors will join in for the festivities to mingle and talk about their books and their journeys, including our Keynote Speaker David Baldacci. This prolific author of suspense novels and legal thrillers is passionate about combating illiteracy in America. The next thriller in his New York Times bestselling Memory Man series is Long Shadows.

The HOW:
With help from YOU -- our community!
Reading is Fundamental of Northern Virginia raises all its own funds to provide books for 20,000 children each year via grants, sponsorships, and donations. New Gala sponsors have signed on and are listed below. We are so grateful! Thank you!

What WAS happening in the children's book world in 1972 when RIF of NOVA began? On a special page on our website, we are counting backward from January through December to reach the top-selling book of 1972.

Number 3 on the list is Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by British author Roald Dahl and published in 1972 by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. It is the sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, continuing the story of young Charlie Bucket and chocolatier Willy Wonka as they travel on an elevator through space and time. Visiting the world's first space hotel, battling the dreaded Vermicious Knids, and saving the world are only a few stops along this intergalactic joyride.

As RIF of NOVA celebrates 50 years in 2022, we are hearing from our community of supporters!

"LUCKY DOG Films congratulates RIF of NOVA on its 50 years of giving free books to young readers. We are proud to be longtime supporters of your amazing volunteer work in our local communities."

Rich Confalone & Kip Prestholdt, Owners
"My goal as a school librarian is to continually instill and nurture the love of books and reading in each and every one of my students. One of the most effective ways to do that is to allow students the freedom to select their own books. I love seeing the joy on students' faces when they find a RIF of NOVA book that they love and are excited to read. Congratulations on 50 years of books and book choice for children in our community!"
