America Recycles Day is Tuesday, November 15!

The Environmental Protection Agency provides a wealth of information on its America Recycles Day web page, along with answers to Frequently Asked Questions. What are you doing to promote a greener environment and to encourage recycling in and around your location? Tell us about your accomplishments by replying to this newsletter.
Keeping America Beautiful is obviously a by-product of recycling. The Top Ten most recycled items include:

  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Food Boxes
  • Mail
  • Beverage Cans
  • Food Cans
  • Glass Bottles
  • Jars (glass and plastic)
  • Jugs
  • Plastic bottles and caps

If any of these items is found in your waste stream, they have a high potential to be recycled and, therefore, avoid being sent to the landfill.

To be certain that none of your recyclable items ends up contaminating the recycle bin (and, therefore, possibly causing the entire contents of the bin to be discarded in a landfill as opposed to being recycled) please refer to the EPA's What You Can Do to Improve the Recycling Rate.
promotes the planting of trees to offset carbon emissions. Trees do more than just remove carbon from the air. Trees have a positive effect on the overall environment, as well as on humans. Some retailer locations have joined forces with Carbon Offset by offering tree-planting with each vehicle sold. According to Carbon Offset, planting trees benefits the environment and our communities in the following ways.

  • Animal habitats are restored
  • Local rainfall patterns are restored
  • The water table rise and water purity improves
  • Flooding and soil erosion stop and soil quality improves

  • Crop yield increases
  • Stabilized farms and local economies grow
  • Extreme poverty is decreased
  • The number of villagers at risk of slavery is reduced
Earth Day at Ciocca Subaru of Philadelphia
Ciocca Subaru of Philadelphia celebrated Earth Day this year by joining forces with the Grays Ferry Tree Tenders to plant six trees in Stinger Park, plus a total of 32 trees in the city of Philadelphia. Ninety-five percent of the associates at Ciocca participated in this endeavor. Not only did they plant trees, but they committed to water the trees in Stinger Park at 20 gallons of water each week. In addition to the planting, employees also took part in picking up litter and trash from the streets and in the parks in their community.
