OCTOBER NEWS FROM THE

MAINE OFFICE OF TOURISM

As October settles in across Maine, we're enjoying the lingering colors of fall and the energy they continue to bring to communities throughout the state. We hope you've had a chance to take in some of autumn's beauty before the landscape begins its annual transition from shades of red, orange, and gold to the twinkling lights and festive traditions of the holiday season. While peak foliage may be winding down, Maine's visitor economy remains active, with travelers increasingly extending their trips into the shoulder season to seek out fall experiences. Based on what we're seeing across the state, all indications point to a solid summer visitation season, and we're looking forward to sharing the results of our summer visitation tracking and research program in the coming weeks. Recent industry data continues to reinforce Maine's strengths. Road trips remain a preferred choice for travelers, with demand for drive-to destinations still growing, a positive indicator for Maine and our Northeast markets. Hotel demand has also remained positive year-to-date, and leisure travel intentions remain strong across income groups.

At the same time, we've seen a significant increase in media interest, welcoming a high volume of summer and fall press visits that are showcasing everything from outdoor recreation and foliage experiences to Maine's growing roster of holiday events and seasonal activities. As travelers prioritize authentic experiences throughout the year, these stories help position Maine as a destination that offers meaningful reasons to visit well beyond the traditional summer season.

This month, you'll find industry updates, research, and opportunities to help you capitalize on the momentum of the fall season while preparing for winter and the holidays ahead. From all of us at the Maine Office of Tourism, thank you for everything you do to welcome visitors and showcase the people, places, and experiences that make Maine unforgettable.

Take Part in the MOT Visitor Tracking and Research Program & Receive Your Own Complimentary Report

The MOT is looking for partners around the state to participate in our statewide research program that informs the Office's long-term planning, strategic imperatives, communications, and future goals. Led by Downs & St. Germain (DDG) Research firm for the Office of Tourism, there are three ways to participate:

  1. Partner managed

Send a short survey invitation email to your guests from the past season. DSG will provide a ready-to-send email, all you need to do is forward it to your guest list.
  2. DSG will distribute on your behalf
If it is easier, you can share your guest email list with DSG and they will handle all outreach directly.
  3. Allow in-person surveyors at your locations
Allow DSG to have an interviewer come to your property and conduct surveys with your guests a couple of times a week to collect data in person. Visitors who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $250 gift card each month, so there is an incentive for your guests as well.

Every partner that helps to distribute the survey will receive a complimentary report containing only the data from their own guests. Your report will be provided at no cost and will not be shared with any other businesses or organizations.
