School Integration Town Hall

On October 20th, NY Appleseed and The Bell hosted a town hall around school integration with guest speakers Chancellor Samuels and Nikole Hannah-Jones. NYCPS students, parents, and advocates spoke about their experiences with the public school system, emphasizing the need to dismantle the structures perpetuating segregation and strive towards an integrated, inclusive school system. You can find the recordings above. Stay tuned for more school integration community events!

I'm In: Pledge for Integrated NYC Schools

NY Appleseed has started a petition for the Mamdani administration to take the steps necessary to truly desegregate and integrate New York City Public Schools. Mayor Mamdani and City leaders already have the tools, the resources, and the well-researched recommendations to act. With a swipe of a pen, they must:

Recommit to and adopt all recommendations of the School Diversity Advisory Group, including:

  • Eliminate middle school screens
  • Phase out segregated Gifted and Talented Programs
  • Redraft school district lines
  • Baseline funding for districtwide school integration plans

This petition is our call to action. Add your name and tell City leaders New York can’t wait.
