Celebrating the Fifth Year of Reading For Life
"Who can tell me about a big feeling they have sometimes?" local author Vladimir Sainte asked the first and second graders at George Melcher Elementary School. With Sainte's visit on October 24, Lead to Read KC officially launched our fifth year of Reading For Life author visits.

This partnership with four local authors encourages students to develop self-esteem and lifelong coping skills through interactive read-alouds and book giveaways at our partner schools. While learning positive mental health approaches focused on youth, the students also get to meet published writers and take home free books.
So Many Ways to Volunteer with Lead to Read KC
Our Reading Mentors know there's nothing better than watching the students' eyes light up when they see you walk into the classrooms. Your consistent presence makes a difference in their success and in their lives. Know someone who is interested? Tell them to Become a Reading Mentor!
Maybe you're not able to commit to a reading schedule right now. That's okay, we still need you! We have many other ways volunteers can assist us, from sorting donated books, to making book deliveries, to staffing the Lead to Read KC table at events.
