PTA Updates
Virtual Back to School Picnics
The PTA and FOSA are very excited about the virtual picnics happening next week! A big thank you to the staff of Bubbles Academy and Bughouse Theater for their hard work creating a fun and engaging event for our kids.

Remember to test the Zoom link prior to the event to ensure everything goes smoothly. Please note, there is no need to buy anything special for the materials needed. Whatever you have around the house is great!

The PTA invites families to bring a carved or painted pumpkin (or pumpkins if really motivated) to school between 3:30-6:00 pm.
At 6:00 pm, we will start lighting all the pumpkins for everyone to walk by and enjoy. Please remember to wear face masks and keep six feet apart. Feel free to wear fall or Halloween themed outfits.

We Need Volunteers!
The PTA is looking for volunteers to help ensure the Pumpkin Walk runs smoothly. Please use the link below to sign up.
PAC & LSC Updates
Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
All parents are encouraged to join us this Thursday (10/22) at 6:00 PM for the first PAC or Parent Advisory Council meeting. Stone now receives Title I Funds and the federal government stipulates that we establish a Parent Advisory Council.

The purpose of the PAC is to help parents become more involved in the school and learn new ways to help their children excel. Most schools use this time to invite speakers or hold workshops about school and parenting issues. There is also a budget for parent involvement to fund these activities and the council determines how to use these funds.

During Thursday's PAC meeting, Mr. Brandon will talk about our vision for the Title I program. The PAC Title I Organizational meeting will take place right afterwards. During this meeting, we will elect the officers, decide meeting dates for the year, and make preliminary decisions about the budget.

The PAC will meet monthly. For now, and most likely the rest of the year, these will be virtual meetings.

We also need parents interested in taking on PAC leadership roles. Please take a look at the descriptions of the officer roles and consider what role interests you the most. This is a great way to help the school and your fellow parents.

Meeting information is also on the school calendar at stoneacademy.net
Local School Council (LSC)
The Stone LSC held our regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 19. Christina Meallet was officially welcomed as a newly appointed Parent Representative to the council.

The Office of LSC Relations has not yet confirmed if LSC Election voting will take place in-person at school or remotely. Please watch for updates and remember to cast your ballot on November 18 for the new LSC members.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for November 16.

CPS Remote Learning Extension
Remote Learning Will Continue in Quarter 2
Last Friday, CPS announced the district's plan for student learning during Quarter 2, which begins on Monday, November 9th. Under this plan, nearly all students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will continue learning remotely during Quarter 2.

If and when public health officials believe it is safe to do so, CPS plans to begin a phased re-opening process. They will begin this process by bringing pre-kindergarten students and students in special education cluster programs back into school buildings at some point during Quarter 2. Stone does not have a pre-kindergarten or a cluster program, so all of our students will remain learning remotely for the start of the 2nd quarter.

Later this fall, the district will engage the community about potentially expanding in-person learning for additional grades in January 2021. As always, we will keep you informed of any new developments related to reopening schools for in-person instruction.
Report Card Conferences & Town Hall
Quarter 1 Report Card Conferences
Quarter 1 ends on Thursday, November 5th, 2020. Beginning the following week, student report cards will be printed centrally by CPS and mailed directly to families.

Like last spring, we plan to hold our Quarter 1 Report Card conferences virtually this year. Please stay tuned for more information about signing up for and participating in virtual conferences.
End of Quarter 1 Town Hall Meeting
At the end of Report Card Conference day, we invite you to join Mr. Brandon and Ms. Nestler for a Virtual Town Hall Meeting.

Meeting Date/Time: Wednesday, November 18th at 6:30PM

This meeting offers parents and families an opportunity to ask questions, share feedback about remote learning and learn more about our plans for continuing our virtual learning program next quarter.
