Volunteer for 5 hours and you will be eligible for a free one-year  Ecology Center membership which entitles you to store and event discounts, and more!   We have several opportunities to get involved.

Education
Education and Engagement Volunteer

Who: 2-4 volunteers for different roles
When: Flexible, Monday through Saturday
What:
  • Tabling and public engagement at community events
  • Assistance with research and outreach for community sustainability questions and inquiries
  • Upkeep of seed and book library and other office-related tasks
  • Any combination of the above
Location: Ecology Center and offsite, event dependent

Climate
Climate Action Volunteer

Who: 2-4 volunteers for different roles
When: Flexible, starting ASAP. Day-of support also needed Nov. 8th 5pm-9pm.
What:
  • Event support before and on Nov. 8th Climate Convening including research, outreach, and event assistance
  • Research for climate-related educational materials
  • Outreach assistance to local groups regarding climate events and opportunities
  • Any combination of the above
Location: Ecology Center and/or South Berkeley Senior Center

EcoHouse
EcoHouse Volunteer 

Who: 2-5 volunteers
When:  Every Wednesday from 2pm-6pm, Thursdays 8:30am-11pm and                        Saturday dates to be confirmed soon.
    *If you would like to volunteer at a different time, please fill out this form .
What:
  • Plantings: replace overgrown, weeded plants
  • Debris Removal: any excess growth from front yard
  • Replace bushes with more appropriate native plants
  • Plant identification and labeling project, possible other tasks
*The Ecology Center will provide materials to complete projects.  Please feel free to bring gardening gloves and knee pads (based on personal preference) and be sure to wear clothing that is suitable for outdoor projects.

OutreachEvent Outreach Volunteer

Who: 5-7 volunteers
When: Monday-Sunday, flexible times
What:
  • Our Events Coordinator will be developing a "Street Team" to support with outreach and promotions of Ecology Center events and programs.
  • We are seeking active and enthusiastic folks who are willing to hit the streets and spread the word about upcoming projects and events.
  • This team would work directly with Ecology Center staff to complete tasks such as: creating event flyers, distributing flyers and posters to community members and businesses, etc.
This role is aimed to build strong community relationships and increase access to information about Ecology Center programs and resources.

Market
Farmers' Market  Volunteer

Who: 1-2 volunteers
When: Tuesdays, Thursdays and/or Saturdays
What:
  • Support the farmers' market team with essential tasks i.e, vendor support, youth intern management, community engagement and more!
  • Managing the parking lot - ensure cars are parked in their correct spots and neighbors driveways, handicap spots are being respected 
  • Point of contact for any chef/vendor needs
  • Setting up and breaking down of signage, etc 
  • Assisting in loading/unloading
Location: Multiple Berkeley Farmers' Market locations
