WATCH OUT FOR F.O.G. THIS HOLIDAY SEASON AND KEEP YOUR PIPES CLEAN!

Holiday cooking can take a toll on your plumbing! When you're done frying, roasting, or baking, remember to keep fats, oils, and grease (FOG) out of your sink. These substances harden as they cool, building up in your pipes and causing costly clogs and backups. Don't dump them down the drain! Instead, let them cool and toss them in the trash or collect them in a sealed container, like an empty jar, for proper disposal. A little care will keep your drains flowing smoothly all season long!

We've got even more tips on our website to keep your home running efficiently, so make sure you check them out!

THANK YOU, VETERANS!

On Veterans Day, and every day, SCV Water proudly recognizes and thanks the brave people who have served our country. Their dedication and sacrifice help protect the freedoms we all enjoy. We are especially grateful to the veterans within our community and on our own SCV Water team. Thank you for your service and commitment to making a difference, both at home and abroad!

In observance of Veterans Day, our offices are closed on Tuesday, November 11. If you experience a water-related emergency, our Customer Care team is available 24/7 at 661-294-0828.

LATE FALL/WINTER GARDENING MADE EASY

As temperatures cool and rain (hopefully!) returns, late fall and winter are the perfect seasons to give your garden some care and set it up for success in spring. In the Santa Clarita Valley’s dry, Mediterranean climate, winter is planting season—especially for California native and water-wise plants that thrive with less water and local weather patterns. A little prep now can help your landscape stay healthy, colorful, and sustainable all year long. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Clean up the garden: Remove dead annuals, spent vegetable plants, fallen leaves — this helps reduce pests and disease carry-over.
  • Mulch beds: Add a 2–3 inch layer of organic mulch around plants (but keep mulch a few inches away from stems) to conserve winter moisture and moderate soil temperature.
  • Check irrigation: As daylight shortens and temperatures drop, plants need far less water. For mature, well-established plants, reduce frequency. For newly planted natives or drought-tolerant plants, continue light watering until roots are well settled. Research cautions against over-watering in the winter.
  • Planting season: Late fall into winter is a great time to get native and drought-tolerant plants in the ground because the soil is still warm, the rain season is approaching, and root systems can establish before peak heat returns.
  • Soil prep: Incorporate compost or organic matter into planting beds to boost soil structure and help retain moisture during our dry summers. The garden-smarter guide for SCV emphasizes improving soil for better drought performance.

MAKE EVERY DROP COUNT WITH OUR RAIN BARREL REBATE PROGRAM

On average, the Santa Clarita Valley receives about 17 inches of rain each year and a home with a 1,000 square-foot roof will shed about 600 gallons of water for each inch of rain received. We're headed into our rainy season, so why not make the most of it and save yourself some money in the process?

Collect the rainfall from your roof using rain barrels and use the water for your irrigation needs and to water indoor plants! We'll even offer you a rebate of up to $75 per barrel you buy and up to $150 total!

Don't let this opportunity wash away! Together, we can make every drop count this rainy season.

FROM CLASSROOM TO COMMUNITY, WATER ACADEMY 2025 COMES TO A CLOSE

Our 2025 Water Academy wrapped up with a tour of our N-Wells PFAS Treatment facility! This year's cohort was a joy and we're so grateful they took the time to come learn about what we do here at SCV Water.

The Water Academy offers participants a carefully curated curriculum covering topics from the history of SCV Water to the challenges associated with sustaining a clean and accessible water supply. Participants can also interact directly with experts in the field and are able to engage in meaningful discussions, creating an immersive and enriching educational experience.

Water Academy is a wonderful opportunity to learn where your water comes from. It's an annual program, so keep an eye out next year if you want to participate!
