Walktober is open for registration!

You are invited to get active and join the fun by setting a physical activity goal for the month of October! Progress is tracked on your personalized website, which will reward your activity with a new fall landscape with every milestone achieved.


Join the campaign solo, or team up with a few coworkers; either way, your participation throughout the month will earn you a chance to win a prize. The website can take information from your fitness trackers, or you can manually input your steps for the day. Other types of physical activity are also converted to steps right on the website.


Tracking begins October 1st. Registration is open until October 7th with the option to backlog activity.

A Functional Approach to Optimizing Women's Health


Join Gina Jones, MS, RD, LD, as she discusses a functional nutrition approach to optimizing your health through food and a restorative lifestyle while gaining more energy, better sleep, improved digestion, and overall vitality. This 8-week series can be used to fulfill your Nutrition Program Incentive.

Environmental Health Series


Learn more about the impact of the environment on your health and what you can do to positively impact the environment through your daily activities. Topics such as recycling, nature as a prescription, sustainability, red listed chemicals, climate change, and lawn care will be covered. Environmental Health experts from Northeast Ohio and beyond will share their expertise in this informative 8-week series for faculty and staff.

Group Fit


Join Wellness Manager Zach for an in-person group fitness series at the Veale Recreation Center. All fitness levels are welcome - modifications will be given to those who need easier or more difficult variations of each movement. This class will utilize bodyweight cardio and strength movements, along with resistance bands, to provide a full-body workout every session!

SOS: Shift On to Self-Care

The outside world is such a hustle, and it only ramps up as we move into the holidays – which will be upon us soon. Let's shift and answer the SOS call for better self-care in the midst of stress. Over these four weeks, you'll have the opportunity to shift moments at a time to deep and courageous attention to yourself! We'll refresh and enhance natural and flowing movement, breath, and positivity. And, together, we'll create a comfortable space for you to enjoy taking care of yourself. Aren’t you worth it?


Join Heidi Weiker in this 4-week series on Tuesdays, 12:30-1:30 pm, starting Oct. 18th via Zoom.

Community Connection


Attend this month’s event to learn a bit about the positive health effects of gratitude while  expanding your connections with others on campus. These events are offered to build relationships across the university so that we can expand our individual and collective well-being.


This conversation will take place via Zoom on Thursday, October 20th from 3-3:45 pm.

Seated Massage

Massage is not just a luxury but an important component of helping our bodies to recover from the stressors of exercise or desk bound posture. We are partnering with One to One Fitness to offer two days of 13 minute chair massage appointments.


Massages are $15 and registration is required; all appointments will take place in Crawford Hall, 213. You can see available time slots, pay for your massage, and reserve your massage below.

Mindfulness Matters Week Returns

Faculty, staff and students will have opportunities to learn about and practice mindfulness with three presentations by mindfulness experts from across the United States. All presentations will be on Zoom.


Meditation and the Brain with Sara Lazar, PhD

Tuesday, October 18th  1-2 pm

Sara W. Lazar, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Psychiatry Department at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. In this talk, Dr. Lazar will present data about how the structure and function of the brain changes as the result of mindfulness meditation practice.


Basics of Mindfulness for Self-Care and Stress Management with Marvin Belzer, PhD

Wednesday, October 19th  12:45-1:45 pm

Marvin G. Belzer, PhD has taught mindfulness meditation for 25 years. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences. His workshop will include an overview of mindfulness, meditation, and it's uses in and out of the classroom.


How Mindfulness Can Support Authenticity and Connection in Daily Life with Suzanne Rusnak, MEd, MSSA, LSW

Thursday, October 20th  12-1 pm

Suzanne Rusnak is an independent mindfulness teacher, as well as the Coordinator of Mindfulness Programming for University Hospitals' Connor Integrative Health network. Her presentation will focus on how mindfulness helps build connections between people.

Fall Wellness Activities


Fall Wellness Activities are now open! In order to qualify for the $25 monthly Wellness Incentive in 2023, benefits-eligible faculty and staff must complete the following steps before November 30th, 2022:


Complete the online WebMD Health Risk Assessment.


Then, complete 2 of the 3 following steps:


1. Tobacco Attestation Form - found in HCM under the "Wellness" tile


2. Primary Care Provider Attestation Form - found in HCM under the "Wellness" tile


3. Biometric Screening - completed at one of our onsite biometric screening events, a Quest Patient Service Center, or through your PCP with results submitted via the Physician Results Form. Appointments will be available on campus this month through November! Make your appointment today.


Additionally, current Wellness Incentive participants have until November 30th to attest to completing 2022 Wellness Programs in HCM to receive their $100 per program (up to $200) incentive in their December 2022 paychecks. More information on program completion requirements for each of our program categories is available on our website.
