Chamber Host - Showcase Your Business

If you would like to showcase your business by hosting a Chamber Coffee or Chamber meeting and/or luncheon at your location, please let us know. This is a great way to familiarize other business owners with the tools and resources you have to offer the community and show off your physical space. Or you can cater the lunch and hold it at the Wellsville City Library or Wellsville Health and Rehab has also offer their space and can cater on site.

Wellsville Chamber Sign Program

If you would like to advertise to the thousands of cars passing by our billboard on Highway 33 each day, we can help produce and display a banner designed just for your business. This Chamber sign is especially important to your business if you are a business located somewhere other than on 33 highway. Many people who live outside Wellsville or are coming off the highway to stop at Bert's or Casey's don't know what other businesses Wellsville has to offer. They might make it a point to use your services each time they are in town if they only knew where you were!

We have filled all our spots through 7/31/25! Thank you all for your support!

Ribbon Cuttings -

The Wellsville Chamber co-hosted with Franklin County for two separate ribbon cuttings on Thursday, October 3rd to celebrate our new Wellsville EMS and police stations.

There are overnight quarters for up to four people at the EMS station, a beautiful kitchen, living room and laundry facilities.

The police station is a significant upgrade. Only $8000 in city funds were used for cubicles and lockers. All other furniture, full kitchen, and weight room were donated to the station!

Monthly FCDC Review:

Panasonic -

FCDC Partnered with the Ottawa Chamber and Ottawa University to host guest from Panasonic to share information on their operation and the timeline to operation. Grace Greene spoke to a group of around 50 community members. She indicated the plant has plans to begin production during the first quarter of 2025. It will be a gradual build up of production over the next 3 to 4 years. This fall and winter Panasonic will be looking to hire 500 production workers. The average wage for production workers will be around $25/hr.

The plant is being built much like a giant “U” shape. One “wing” will start production in 2025 while the other “wing” will not begin production until 2028. This will be a gradual buildup to the 4,000 employees they have projected once at full production. An interesting note, if the building was put on its side it would be taller than the Empire State Building.

We have not seen ancillary industry arrive as quickly as initially expected but should see an increase over the next 2 – 4 years as the Panasonic Plant ramps up. Ancillary jobs in our region related to the impact from the Panasonic plant are estimated to be over 4,000.

USD #289 School District

Wellsville School District Projects and Programs:

  • USD #289 currently has just under 90 students enrolled in their PreK program. Investing in early learning is critical to our students' long-term academic success.
  • They have 64% of WHS juniors and seniors enrolled in a dual credit course this year. Students are taking technical college courses or college courses while still in high school. It is more cost-effective for students and their families and allows students to begin taking courses aligned with their passion and career while still in high school. This would not be possible without the WHS Concurrent Education Endowment Foundation.
  • Wellsville High School's Graduation Rate in 2024 was 98%. The Kansas State Department of Education recently recognized this through the Kansas Can Star Awards.
  • In addition to their diploma, 88% of 2024 graduates completed one of the district outcomes:
  • ACT score of 21
  • 12 or more college hours
  • Industry Recognized Certificate
  • Workkeys Certificate
  • Acceptance into the military

This means that students not only have a high school diploma but have also completed the training or demonstrated the skill level to be ready to enter the workforce or postsecondary training. When these outcomes were developed just six years ago, only 43% of students achieved an outcome, so the growth over the past few years is substantial.

  • WHS students have 12 different Career Pathways and 74 Certification Programs. If a student has a career interest in a program not currently offered, our counseling department and admin work hard to find that program for the student, so they can begin exploring it while in high school. The full list can be seen below:

Pathways -

  • Business Management and Entrepreneurship
  • Web and Digital Communications
  • Business Finance
  • Corrections, Security, Law, and Law Enforcement
  • Government and Public Administration
  • Comprehensive Agriculture Science
  • Restaurant and Event Management
  • Power, Structural, and Technical Systems
  • Teaching/Training
  • Biochemistry
  • Graphic Design Pathway
  • Early Childhood and Development Services

The work of our students and staff across all levels and the support and leadership of our board of education have made the above numbers possible.

WHS Eagle Cafe selected for KASB District Showcase -

Last year, high school students started an Eagle Cafe lead by Mrs. Leintz. Students had the opportunity to purchase stock in the company. They track revenue, expenses, and profit. Students who purchased stock shared in the profits at the end of the year. The Eagle Cafe was recently selected to be showcased at the Kansas Association of School Boards Annual Conference. It is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their achievements and work with school board members and administrators from across the state!

New Outdoor Elementary Classroom -

Last year, Wellsville Elementary received a grant for an outdoor classroom area. The equipment has arrived and been installed. It will be a great outdoor learning area for our students. Congratulations to Mrs. Conner and staff for their amazing work on this project!

Safe Routes to School Grant -

Wellsville was the recent recipient of a Safe Routes to Schools Grant. This grant will assist in the planning and creation of a Safe Route to Schools Plan. This is a cooperative effort between KDOT, the City of Wellsville, Wellsville Health Coalition, and USD 289, along with multiple community stakeholders.

We are asking for your assistance in this process by completing the survey below and providing feedback via the online map tool. We truly appreciate your time and assistance with this important project.

Additionally, on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 15, KDOT representatives and community team members will conduct a "walk audit" as part of this project. On Wed., Oct. 16, they will have booths at parent-teacher conferences to share information.
