HAPPENING THIS OCTOBER

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

October 13 is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day and October 20 is World Mammography Day. There are an estimated 3.7 million women living with breast cancer in the United States. Read SWHR's Breast Cancer Fact Sheet to learn more.

EYE INJURY PREVENTION MONTH

HEALTHY LUNG MONTH

MENOPAUSE AWARENESS MONTH

October 18 is also World Menopause Day. While there are stages of menopause, the term menopause is often used to describe the entire time frame of midlife changes. Get prepared for your own menopause transition or learn to support others through the menopause journey with the Menopause Preparedness Toolkit.

OCT 29: WORLD PSORIASIS DAY

This October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. A woman's risk of developing breast cancer is one in eight. Read the Value of Diagnostics within Women’s Health: Breast Cancer Fact Sheet to understand your breast cancer risks.


This October 29 is also World Stroke Day. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Women are more prone to developing osteoporosis, the most common form of bone disease and the major cause of fractures in postmenopausal women and older men.


Released at the end of Healthy Aging Month in September, the new fact sheet, Women’s Bone Health: The Importance of Caring for Your Bones Early and Often, highlights the important steps women can take to improve and maintain their bone health and to prevent secondary fracture – and the health care costs of not investing in bone health.
