What is resilience? What are the areas of wellbeing? What is Leadership’s role in promoting health and mental health?
On October 13th Crystal Run Healthcare's Dr. Nicholas Batson (MD, MMM Psychiatry) answered these questions and more.
Dr. Batson was the first Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) provider providing long-acting injectable buprenorphine in the region. He oversees the Medication Assisted Treatment Programs and serves as both the Division Lead for Psychiatry, and Medical Director of Surgical Services at Crystal Run Healthcare. Dr. Batson is actively involved in the integration of healthcare delivery to improve the health outcomes for patients with mental health and substance use disorders.

Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon to Keynote Council of Industry Annual Luncheon November 19th |

Join us on Friday, November 19th at the beautiful Grandview on the river in Poughkeepsie, NY for our Annual Luncheon & Member Expo. The Expo opens at 11:30 am and Lunch will follow at 12:30 pm.
Our keynote speaker is Roberta Reardon, New York State Department of Labor Commissioner, who will speak on the state’s pandemic response and her department’s efforts to close the skills gap and innovate its workforce development programs.
We will also recognize the 2020 and 2021 Manufacturing Champions.
The Member/ Associate Member Expo will precede the luncheon from 11:30 - 12:15.

Goshen High School STEAM Fair |
|
Goshen High School will host a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Fair on Saturday, October 23.
The event is open to the public, admission is free, and there will be food trucks.

Register and host your MFG Day 2021 event anytime during the 2021-2022 school year–Use the MFG Day Resources and FAQs below to help! The Manufacturing Institute’s newly launched Student Creators site is a great place to help students learn more about manufacturing, ways to get involved while in school, and how to take next steps in exploring the industry! Here's a look at some MFG Dat events Council of Industry members hosted this month:
- Viking Industries hosted WKIPs' Hudson Valley Focus Live on October 15th.
- Hatfield Metal hosted an Open House for MFG Day. The company provided tours and displays for students, teachers, and faculty to learn more about local manufacturing and career opportunities in the field.
- Marlboro High School students celebrated MFG Day by attending Sono-Tek's headquarters to learn about the possibilities of manufacturing.

High-Schoolers Operate On-Campus Manufacturing Firm |

McDowell High School in Pennsylvania is in its first year of operating an on-campus manufacturing facility that functions as an in-school internship program. Students operate all aspects of the company, including working with clients and accounting. The company is in its first full year of operation. And from last school year to this one, the number of students participating in the in-school internship program doubled to 51.

With U.S. manufacturers facing more than 800,000 vacant jobs, companies are re-focusing their efforts on building their workforce. Foreign nationals can help fill the workforce gap. Manufacturers can sponsor foreign nationals in a variety of different work-authorized status categories, each with its own requirements and limitations. Here is a rundown on the most common classifications.

Burned Out and Restless from the Pandemic, Women Redefine Their Career Ambitions |
|
The pandemic has been especially brutal for women. They suffered a disproportionate number of layoffs, took on more home responsibilities and made more career sacrifices to manage the collapse of in-school learning and child-care arrangements, research shows. A comprehensive new study byMcKinsey and Lean In shows how stressed and exhausted many professional women are. And many of them are rethinking what they want from their work lives but those stresses have also motivated many women to redefine their ambitions and reset the terms of their careers.
Some, like Mrs. Klaker, are forging new careers to pursue old passions or switching to jobs better suited to family lives. Some are starting new businesses, while others have moved to far-flung places or taken a pause to plot their next career move. And many are taking the leap to bigger roles, but with greater expectations of work flexibility than in pre-Covid-19 times.

Washington State Manufacturers Try New Approach to Attract, Retain Employees |

Manufacturers are using new benefits, flexible work arrangements, better pay and the elimination of degree requirements to find and retain workers. Efforts in Washington state include a weeklong bus tour to highlight potential careers for students.“We don’t have the luxury any more to weed people out by things such as degrees because they’re going to come in and they won’t have it and you’re going to rule out good people. Instead, you have to say what’s the baseline capabilities. Let’s bring them in. If they can meet the baseline capabilities, wecan train them on these other things," he said.
