HIGH HOLY DAYS 5779
|
The "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen version) surprise tribute by congregants to Rabbi Goldberg
|
Our 2018/5779 High Holy Days marked the 23nd year of meaningful, musical and uplifting Yontiv services. In the light-filled, serene sanctuary we prayed, sang, laughed, listened and, on Rosh Hashanah's second day, also danced! As she has since our beginnings, Rabbi Goldberg led, inspired and comforted us. The musical liturgy and songs were conducted and rendered exquisitely by Chazzan Daniela Gesundheit. Various members chanted Torah, gave sermons, sang, played music and blew shofar to herald the new year. Our youngsters participated in their own Torah service, made challahs, learned a song with the chazzan and created holiday mementos to take home. The services included sermons by Rabbi Goldberg and others on spiritual, historical and scholarly topics that both called us to action and made us ponder. Gutte Yontif/Shana Tova/Happy New Year to all!

BEIT OLAM - A JEWISH BURIAL SITE
Congregation Shir Libeynu is pleased to partner with Beit Olam on this new cemetery site. Beit Olam welcomes persons of Jewish faith, interfaith families, and those with Jewish connections. Burial at Beit Olam (within Glenview Memorial Gardens) is to be made in accordance with Jewish customs and protocols, and monuments are expected to contain Jewish symbols or be non-denominational. All burials and monuments at Beit Olam will be respectful of the Jewish nature of the gardens. Beit Olam will be surrounded by borders and roads to delineate it from the rest of the Glenview Memorial Garden's other sites. A rabbinic advisory group will oversee all of Beit Olam and ensure that established standards of ritual and practice are honoured and upheld.
Shir Libeynu now has a designated section at Beit Olam, with a limited number of plots reserved for our congregants. We are planning a visit to the site and a ceremony in October to mark this designation. If you are interested in attending, please write
here.
For more information or to contact our shul about our partnership with Beit Olam, write

For more information on Beit Olam, write to family service director Tanis Floom:
tfloom@arbormemorial.com or phone her: 647-467-7365.
Shir Libeynu thanks Tanis Floom for her help and support to our community at Beit Olam.
