Food Resources in Cecil & Harford

In anticipation of the expiration of SNAP benefits beginning November 1, many individuals and families may need additional food support. Below are helpful graphics highlighting local food pantries, community meal programs, and other resources available in Cecil and Harford Counties. Please review and share these resources to help ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food during this transition.

Medicare Open Enrollment

The annual Medicare Open Enrollment period runs from October 15 to December 7. This is the key time of year for Medicare beneficiaries to review their current health and prescription drug coverage and make any changes for the upcoming year.

Your current plan’s costs, benefits, and list of covered prescription drugs could be different next year. Taking time to compare your options is the best way to ensure you have the right coverage for your health needs and budget in 2026.

You don't have to navigate this alone. Maryland’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides free, confidential, and unbiased one-on-one counseling to help you understand your options and compare plans. As this is a busy time of year, we recommend calling early to schedule an appointment. Find the number for your local SHIP office at aging.maryland.gov/SHIP.

Community Connections

NAACP Health Fair

WCHC was honored to participate as a community partner at the NAACP Health Fair at Wright's AME Church! Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mozella Williams, presented on the important topics of prostate cancer and breast cancer, and there was excellent engagement and thoughtful discussion among participants throughout the presentation.

DFC Trunk-or-Treat

We loved participating in this year's Trunk-or-Treat hosted by Drug Free Cecil! We had so much fun greeting all of the event participants and seeing all of the creative costumes! Our favorite part was seeing those familiar faces of our very own WCHC team members!

Cecil County Government Employee Wellness Fair

We had a great time participating in the Cecil County Government Employee Wellness Fair! A special thank you to County Executive Adam Streight for stopping by our table to say hello — we appreciate your leadership and support for community wellness!

Faith-Based Community Resource Fair

WCHC was proud to join the Cecil County Health Department and other community organizations and agencies in the first resource fair for faith-based organizations. This event helped connect faith-based organizations with the resources they may need to support their congregations and communities. Thank you to everyone who participated!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to honor survivors, support those currently facing breast cancer, and spread the word about the power of early detection.

For women, annual mammograms are recommended starting at age 40. These simple screenings remain one of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early — when it’s most treatable. Your primary care provider can help you stay on track with screenings and offer guidance tailored to your personal health history and risk factors.

As the month wraps up, remember: staying proactive and informed about your health today can make all the difference tomorrow.

If you are a Maryland resident and do not have health insurance that covers breast cancer screening, please call the Maryland Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program at 410-778-7970 to see if you qualify for a no-cost mammogram. Early detection is your best protection!

Mental Health Matters

Helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

As October draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month, a time dedicated to reminding us all that mental health is an essential part of overall well-being.

Earlier this month, people around the world recognized World Mental Health Day on October 10, shining a light on the importance of compassion, awareness, and support for those facing mental health challenges. While the day has passed, its message remains powerful—mental wellness deserves attention every day, not just once a year.

Participating in a mental health screening or checking in with a friend can make a real difference. Screenings help us better understand how we’re feeling and guide us toward helpful resources, while simple acts of care—like listening or reaching out—can strengthen our sense of community and connection.

WCHC Behavioral Health is currently accepting new patients for both in-person and telehealth medication management and therapy. If you, or someone you know, are in need of care, please call the office today at 410-378-9696 to schedule.
