All locations will be closed Monday, October 14 for Columbus Day.

Service Spotlight

Thanks to a generous donor, the library has acquired a Topaz Desktop Video Magnifier. This easy to use machine can assist you in seeing printed type, pictures, handwriting and other small details. Just place an item on the moveable reading table, adjust the magnification level and display colors, and documents will display in large size on the screen. This new machine is located on the second floor of the library. Anyone can use it. For help, ask a Reference librarian.

National Friends of Libraries Week

We will be spending the week of October 20-26 celebrating the Friends of the Beverly Public Library as part of the 13th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week.

The Friends of the Beverly Public Library was established in 1975 and has raised over $25,000 each year for the library. Currently over 350 community members contribute annually to the Friends, raising funds for the Monday Mornings lecture series, Summer Sounds concert series, children and teen summer reading events, all ages crafting programs, museum passes, the Annual Teen Poetry Contest, and much more.

Friends’ Fall Book Sale

Stock up on great reads for the winter months! Our annual Friends of the Beverly Public Library Fall Book Sale takes place from Saturday, November 16 through Sunday, November 24 at the main library. The sale is open daily during regular library hours .

Membership Has Its Privileges!

Members of the Friends of the Beverly Public Library are invited to a preview of the annual Friends’ Fall Book Sale at the main library on Friday, November 15 from 6-8 PM . Not yet a member of the Friends? No problem—you can join (or renew) at the door! Memberships start at $15.

Extended Hours Resume

Fall is approaching, and that means that our weekend hours will resume. Sunday hours at the main library (1 - 5 PM) will resume on Sunday, October 6. Saturday hours at the Farms branch (10 AM - 5 PM) will resume on Saturday, October 5. The Farms branch is always closed on Sundays. Expanded weekend hours will continue until Memorial Day 2020.

Is It Your Lucky Day?

We are excited to announce a new collection of popular titles. Don’t want to wait for that new James Patterson or Nora Roberts novel? Stop by and check out the Lucky Day collection. Items are available in person only, first-come, first-served. N o holds can be placed on these items . Lucky Day titles have a three week loan period with no renewals. Questions? Friendly Garden Club

The Friendly Garden Club of Beverly, MA maintains the Landman Garden at the Beverly Public Library, in addition to other city beautification projects, and is actively welcoming new members. Visit beverlygardenclub.org or contact [email protected] to learn more.

Teen Happenings

Summer Reading Art Gallery - Opening Celebration

Thursday, Oct. 3 from 6:30-8 PM

Beverly Middle School and Beverly High School will host an art display in the Sohier Room that brings the reading experiences of Beverly teens to life. The students read a wide range of books and produced creative responses to the books they read, including drawings, posters, paintings, dioramas, and more. Beverly native Kate Allen will be a guest at this event, reading from her book, The Line Tender , which was featured on the middle school list this year. Celebrate the opening of the art exhibit and enjoy some light refreshments! Open to all ages.

Coming Soon! 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is our new early learning initiative designed to help parents prepare their children for one of life’s important milestones: kindergarten.

Reading with your child everyday is one of the best ways to prepare your little one for a lifetime of learning and fun.Together you can read 1,000 books, and we are here to help and cheer you on! Join our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program beginning on Saturday, November 2, in the Children’s Room of the main library and the Farms branch.

Help us name our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten fox mascot

Our fox is in the Children’s Room on the Circulation Desk ready to meet you! Visit the library before October 21 and submit a name suggestion. We will announce fox’s name on November 2. Our fox needs a name and we are counting on you!

Art Exhibit: Marilyn Swift

Gloucester painter Marilyn Swift is pleased to be returning with a diverse selection of watercolors. All are welcome to meet the artist at a festive reception Saturday, October 19 from 1-3 PM. All work will be available for purchase. A portion of sales will be donated to the library.
