Embracing Mistakes in Competition Obedience | When a competition obedience team performs at the top of its game, it looks like perfection. But it would be incorrect to assume that training an obedience dog is about demanding perfection. Mistakes happen. And when they do, they provide invaluable opportunities for the handler and dog to grow.
One of the great thrills in working with your dog is to have him complete a track and find the article. When the handler holds the found article in the air for all to see, the judges come rushing up to congratulate the dog and handler and sign the glove.

NCA Bylaws Revision - Comment Period Closes 11/15
The NCA bylaws were last revised on February 1, 1997, 27 years ago. The NCA Board of Directors put together an ad hoc Bylaws Committee revise the NCA bylaws to bring them current and to make sure the NCA is in compliance with Connecticut statues (where the NCA is incorporated). The committee worked hard to revise the bylaws with the best interest of all members of the NCA. These revised bylaws have received the initial approval of the NCA Board of Directors and the American Kennel Club. So now we need the membership’s help.
The process for amending the bylaws is:
- Revised bylaws reviewed and approved by the NCA Board of Directors
- Approved NCA bylaws reviewed and given pre-vote approval by the American Kennel Club
- Bylaws sent to the NCA membership for review.
-
Review period is Sept. 15th through Nov. 15th, 2024
- Bylaws reviewed and revised if needed.
- Approved bylaws sent to the membership for vote of approval by secret ballot vote.
- Approved bylaws and vote tally sent to the American Kennel Club for approval by the American Kennel Club Board of Directors.
- Revised/ approved Bylaws become effective on the approve of the American Kennel Club
NCA Members will be sent an email with a link (or mailed instructions) to the revised bylaws with directions on where to send your suggestions.

The new Puppy Referral Listing Program is now available to NCA members to list planned or existing litters or adults for placement.

As always, we want to hear from you. Email us at any time with your comments and suggestions.
