DARE TO BE PROPHETIC
Season of Creation
Each year, between September 1 and October 4, Christians around the world celebrate the Season of Creation. Through prayer, reflection, advocacy and lifestyle changes, we are encouraged to help protect and preserve the unique gifts of our planet. Each Sunday, we are invited to reflect and act on a theme related to the urgent need to attention and protection of God’s creation.

Blessing of the Animals
Sister Theresa Harpin, CSJ Hometown Hero
During the month of September KSBY Channel 6 News and Coastal Communities Physician Network (CCPN) selected six individuals and recognized them as Hometown Heroes in the California Central Coast. Our own Sister Theresa Harpin, CSJ was among the outstanding individuals making a huge difference in their communities. Sister helped start Restorative Partners , an organization dedicated to help formerly incarcerated individuals transition back into society.
Le Puy Pilgrimage
A year after a rapid series of negotiations to purchase the birthplace of our Congregation's co-founder, Mother St. John Fontbonne, in Bas-en-Basset (France), the home was blessed in a ceremony lead by Mount Saint Mary’s University President, Ann McElaney-Johnson.
The house will serve as a welcoming space for pilgrims, a study place for faculty and students, and a destination for students seeking an international experience.
Catholic Day of Action
September 4, 2019
“Thank you to all of our participants and to the many who joined us in prayer and solidarity from their Congregations and communities,” wrote Sister Patty Johnson, CSJ head of the US Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph." We greatly appreciate everyone who was able to call and e-mail the White House and local legislators. We had a great turn out at the event, with more than 30 Sisters, Associates, St. Joseph Workers and partners in mission in attendance. Five of our Sisters participated in the act of nonviolent civil disobedience.” Another Catholic Day of Action will take place at the border in El Paso this month. St. Joseph Workers Commissioning Ceremony
Eight 2019-20 St. Joseph Workers were formally commissioned on September 9, 2019 in Los Angeles, CA. Each young woman introduced herself and shared a poem, prayer or song that has been meaningful to her on her journey. They also read the opening paragraph of their community covenant: “As honorary members of the Sisters of St. Joseph, we agree to respect those we live with and abide by the rules set forth as a community. As a community of strong women, we agree to live to empower each other, to live with intention, and to embody the traits of a woman in leadership. In order to live intentionally, we will work as a team to share responsibilities and resources. We will work to create a family- oriented environment which is simple and sustainable. Together, we will strive to create a clean and healthy living environment in order to lower stress and allow for a positive outlook on life.”
Novices Embark on Pilgrimage
Last September, CSJ Sisters Carol Brong and Jeanne Marie Gocha departed for a pilgrimage with novice Sisters Chizuru Yamada and Sally Koch to St. Paul, MN where they will meet some of our Sisters. They will also visit a few ministries of the Sisters, participate in activities, pray with them and more. Then, the group will drive to St. Louis, MO and take in the richness of the Congregation. Then, they will fly to Albany, NY.

The Sisters will return to Porter Ranch, CA for a few weeks and then go to Peru. They will continue to study our Constitution, specifically the vows and participate in discussions on the Directional Statement from our Congregational Chapter. Let’s pray for a safe journey which will surely enrich their lives and expand their view of the Carondelet Congregation.
