Growing a Pollinator-friendly Landscape in Moore Park

When we think about pollinators, spring and summer often come to mind first: flowers in bloom, bees moving from plant to plant and gardens filled with color. But supporting pollinators is a year-round effort and one we are continuing to expand.

This year, King of Prussia District expanded its educational pollinator efforts with Wild BeeHomes designed to provide nesting space for cavity-nesting native bees, such as mason bees and leafcutter bees. Each BeeHome can hold up to 400 bee cocoons, creating habitats for these beneficial insects while giving visitors another opportunity to learn about pollinators.

Community Who Cares

King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company

When the call comes in, the volunteers of the King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company don’t wait to be asked twice.

That commitment is the focus of this installment of Community Who Cares, a King of Prussia District series spotlighting the organizations and people making the area a better place to live and work.

The company has been answering that call since 1950. It was born out of necessity, when a grocery store on Dekalb Pike near Gulph Road caught fire that spring. The other volunteer companies in Upper Merion Township (UMT) were held up by a freight train crossing the road. Neighbors decided King of Prussia needed its own fire company, and a group of charter members made it happen. The volunteers went on to build their station on Allendale Road themselves.

Fall is in the Air (and So is the Smell of Apple Cider Donuts)

There's a specific kind of magic that happens in King of Prussia once the temperature drops and the leaves start showing off.

Sweaters come out of hibernation, pumpkins start showing up on porches and suddenly every event within a ten-mile radius involves either apples, hayrides or a suspicious amount of flannel. We rounded up the best fall happenings on the calendar this season, from farm festivals to fireside history lessons. Grab a cider and start planning your weekends.
