This week marks four year since the deadliest antisemitic hate crime in U.S, history. We remember the eleven lives taken at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. May their memories be a blessing.

Kanye's Weaponized Words and How We Can Resist With Our Own

Four years ago, on October 27, 2018, the country and the world saw the traumatic consequences that the spread of antisemitic hate speech can have on a community.

Over this past year alone, one in every four American Jews has been targeted by antisemitism, and nearly four in 10 report changing their behavior for fear of being identified as Jewish, or for their safety or comfort as Jews, reports the ADL.

NIOT Co-Director Pardeep Kaleka writes this week in the NIOT blog about rapper Kanye West's recent antisemitic tweets. "Instead of amplifying Ye’s antisemitism, we should be like the Pittsburgh community," he writes. "We should remember the lives lost, we should pay our respects by really delving into understanding the Jewish experience with a sense of educational vigor that requires more than just listening to the next influencer share their disgruntled heart."

'Repairing the World' Screenings in

California, Massachusetts, Virginia & Ohio

We are pleased to announce several upcoming screenings of NIOT's new film, Repairing the World: Stories From the Tree of Life, in Palo Alto, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Boston, MA; Youngstown, OH; Alexandria, VA; Berkeley and San Rafael, CA. 

The film won the Best Documentary Award for its premiere at the Pittsburgh J-Film Festival and the Audience Award at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival.

It will also be screened during the Santa Cruz Jewish Film Festival on Nov. 20 and in Berkeley, CA, during United Against Hate Week on Nov. 16. Details to come for those in northern California!
