October 5th, 2018
Every day, thousands of young individuals are bullied – whether at school, home, or online. In an effort to end this ongoing and rampant problem, PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center founded the National Bullying Prevention Month Campaign in 2006. Today, October is recognized as the month dedicated to raising bullying awareness. Across the nation, several organizations and groups come together to put a stop to bullying. Their efforts include community activities and outreach such as walks/runs, speaking engagements, and implementing educational programs in schools that promote tolerance, compassion and provide tools for identifying bullying behavior. Because bullying can take place in a variety of different settings and to a variety of different types of students, it has become essential to educate our communities on both the signs and long-term effects of bullying.
As writer Kathleen Patel stated,
With ignorance comes fear – from fear comes bigotry. Education is the key to acceptance .”
There is no better time than October to get involved and learn about bullying prevention!
