What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.

Hello to my son Eric
Susie Kratt (my fellow Realtor at NPR) and her family dined at Theatercafeen in Oslo, Norway, where my eldest son, Eric, is the assistant head chef. In Susie’s words, “We are all over the moon and can’t stop talking about what a wonderful meal and how impressed we were with Eric! Everything was fabulous!” Susie brought him a gift from me from the Liquor Barn in Bigfork to remind him of his “home nest!” (read about TheaterCafeen)

Testimonial
Denise Lang is absolutely, hands down the best realtor in the Flathead. Her attention to the legalities and details of selling our home just made all the difference. Every call I made was answered and even when she had to tell us a “hard truth” it resulted in our being prepared to close the deal. Her professional presentation when showing our home and her relationships with the other professionals in the valley made dealing with the repairs we needed to make happen on a timely and reasonable basis. Denise will go above and beyond for her clients and I highly recommend her to help you buy or sell your home! Thank you Denise!

As Ceri says...
As you all know, late this summer, Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully after over 70 years of being Queen of the United Kingdom. She was an avid Corgi lover. In fact, she got her first Corgi at 7 years old, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named "Dookie."
She never sold her Corgis. On many occasions, she would give one of her puppies as a gift. They were lovingly called the "Loyal Royals."
I have found a fun video for you with Queen Elizabeth II and her Corgies (click here).
To all my royal Corgi brothers and sisters...Keep Calm and Carry On!

Denise's Cooking Corner - Oatmeal Scones with Maple Glaze
This is how autumn speaks to me!
|
|
INGREDIENTS
For the Scones:
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1 cup quick-cooking oats, plus additional for sprinkling
2 tablespoons baking powder
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 pound cold unsalted butter, diced
1/2 cup cold buttermilk
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
4 extra-large eggs, lightly beaten
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon milk or water, for egg wash
For the Glaze:
1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, combine the flours, oats, baking powder, sugar and salt. Blend the cold butter in at the lowest speed and mix until the butter is in pea-size pieces. Combine the buttermilk, maple syrup and eggs and add quickly to the flour-and-butter mixture. Mix until just blended. The dough may be sticky.
Dump the dough out onto a well-floured surface and be sure it is combined. Flour your hands and a rolling pin and roll the dough 3/4 to 1 inch thick. You should see lumps of butter in the dough. Cut into 3-inch rounds with a plain or fluted cutter and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Brush the tops with egg wash. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the tops are crisp and the insides are done.
To make the glaze, combine the confectioners' sugar, maple syrup and vanilla. When the scones are done, cool for 5 minutes and drizzle each scone with 1 tablespoon of the glaze. I like to sprinkle some uncooked oats on the top, for garnish. The warmer the scones are when you glaze them, the thinner the glaze will be.

Denise's Book Corner - The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel
|
|
Doing well with money isn't necessarily about what you know. It's about how you behave. This book explores how money moves around in an economy and how personal biases and emotional factors play an important role in our financial decisions. It also explores how to think more rationally and make better decisions when it comes to money, as well as the false ideas we have about money that have emerged over the years.
Here are my favorite lessons from the book:
- When it comes to managing your money, it’s better to leave greed out of it
If you tend to be greedy, it's time to learn to be humble.
- Strong emotions, such as envy, can push us towards making sloppy decisions. The emotional factor is one of the most important things to work on if we want to become financially independent.
- The experiences we have early on in our life determine our financial decisions. As we go along, we should work on our ability to adapt to trends and let go of our phobias of new ones, even if it contradicts our inner beliefs.
The topics of psychology and money are a couple of my favorites...the psychology of working with clients and making money for them. However, reading this book opened my mind towards new perspectives forcing me to look at how I may have been biased. I have to admit, it was a bit unsettling, but it definitely gave me an array of ideas and areas where I can make improvements and effect positive changes.
