The Great Community Give Back
October Food Drive
As part of the Great Give Back this fall, the Marlboro Free Library will be collecting non-perishable food items during the month of October. All items will be donated to Marlboro's local food pantry. Non-perishable, non-expired food items can be dropped off at the Library during open hours from October 1-31.

The mission of the Great Give Back is to provide a day of opportunities for patrons of public libraries in New York State to participate in meaningful, service-oriented experiences.
*NEW* Craftsy Now Available!
Craftsy is now available on the Libby app! Craftsy offers crafting videos, tutorials and additional resources for creative makers. With more than 3,000 hours of content and over 1,300 courses from expert instructors, Craftsy allows users to bring quality crafting courses into their homes! Courses include sewing, baking, painting, woodworking, gardening & more!

Medicare 101 Webinar

Are you currently enrolled in Medicare? Will you be turning 65 over the next year or two? Learn about eligibility, how and when to enroll, when you can make changes, and the insurance options available to you. This webinar will simplify the choices you need to make, and explain what Medicare means for you!

MFL Walking Club

Virtual Author Talk:
Navy Veteran, Tommy Zurhellen
Wednesday, October 6, 7:00 pm
In the summer of 2019, Tommy Zurhellen walked 2,866 miles across America alone, to raise awareness of veteran suicide and veteran homelessness in our country. During his presentation, Zurhellen will discuss his journey and his exciting memoir, The Low Road: Walking the Walk for Veterans.

Dark Side of Marlboro
Historical Walking Tour

The Dark Side of Marlboro Annual Walking Tour is back with some old favorites and brand new stories!
Jail breaks, mobsters, murders, a con man on the run? It didn’t happen in Marlboro....Or did it?

Join us for a spooky walking tour through the village of Marlboro. Guides will take you through town to various historical sites and relate long forgotten tales unearthed in our local history collection and old newspapers.

In-person registration for this event is required. Spaces are limited. Tickets are $8 each and are available for purchase at the circulation desk.
Masks are required whenever social distancing is not possible.
Italian Café
Thursday, October 21, 7:00 pm
Join local resident and professor, Rosella Perrone, for a fun night of Italian language and culture in the Library’s community room. During this workshop, Rosella will teach attendees a few basic Italian phrases and will discuss and share popular Italian culture.
Rosella Perrone is a native Italian who moved to the US at the age of fifteen, and received her BA and MA in Italian Studies and Comparative Literature at CUNY Queens College. Registration is required.
Book Club
Wednesday, October 27, 7:00 pm
All are welcome to attend our Book Club! During October’s meeting, we will be discussing The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker.

Book Club will meet in-person at the Library. If you are not comfortable meeting in-person, please email Lindsay at ljankovitz@marlborolibrary.org and she will set you up on Zoom.
 
Copies have been ordered and are available for pick-up. Registration is required.

Family Fall Festival & Used Book Sale
Saturday, October 16, 10:00 am-2:00 pm
Join us for outdoor fun and games for the whole family including a fall story time, a special craft, a fall raffle basket, face painting and more! Halloween costumes are encouraged!

The Book Barn will be open for the last time before closing for the season, so stock up on your used books for the winter during the festival!

Tickets are $10 per family and are available at the circulation desk.
The rain date for this event will be Sunday, October 17, same time.
Masks are required whenever social distancing is not possible.
Book Barn - Used Books for Sale

The Friends of the Marlboro Library's Book Barn is open the first and third Saturday of the month until October 16, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. This month will be your last chance to browse the Book Barn until next May!
The Book Barn sells good quality, used books to help benefit the Library.

BOOK BARN FLASH SALE:
On days when the Book Barn is open, from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm, visitors may purchase one bag of books (bag provided by the Friends group) for $5!

New Upcoming Adult Craft: Holly Brooch
Tuesday, November 30, 7:00 pm
Select Tuesdays this fall, the Library continues to host a series of craft nights featuring easy-to-make seasonal crafts for adults! On Tuesday, November 30, join us to craft a seasonal brooch perfect for your winter coat.
Craft sessions will be in-person in the community room, with a Take & Make option for those uncomfortable attending in-person. Registration before the deadline of November 22 is required for both options. Spaces are limited. Register online and select the craft format you’d prefer.
Medicare Counseling Appointments
with Ulster County Office for the Aging
Monday, November 8 & 15, & December 6, 10:00 am-6:00 pm
A representative from the Ulster County Office for the Aging will be at the Library to help those interested sign up for Medicare and choose a plan that best fits their lifestyles. Receive personalized counseling and help understanding the different plans available.
Appointments are required. Please call the Office for the Aging at 845-340-3456 to make an appointment. Walk-ins will not be accommodated.
Please make sure when booking your appointment that you specify that you would like to meet with Peggy at the Marlboro Free Library.
