Mended Hearts

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, Karla Hall, director of care management at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, will help you learn about patient care transitions from hospital to home, including community resources for caring for yourself and tips on caring for loved ones. Learn about ways to join the meeting (in person at the Health Education Center, 3333 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham, virtually via Zoom or live stream on YouTube). All meetings are free and open to the public.

WIC Breastfeeding Class

If breastfeeding is new to you and your baby, we are here to help with a free online class 1 p.m. (English) or 2:15 p.m. (Spanish) on Thursday, Oct. 19. You'll learn about:

  • common concerns in the early days and how to overcome them
  • breastfeeding positions and tips for best latch
  • colostrum and how the body makes milk
  • hunger signals and other baby behaviors
  • how WIC staff can help

The class is open to all pregnant people in Skagit County. You do not need to be a WIC client. Click to register.


QPR Suicide Prevention Class

In Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), participants develop the skills to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Similar to CPR, QPR is an evidence-based suicide prevention program that provides lifesaving knowledge and steps to help someone in crisis. The free online class happens 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9. It's open to anyone age 16+. Click to register.


Overdose Response Class

Learn the steps to recognize and respond to an overdose, including how to deliver naloxone (Narcan) the medication that reverses an opioid overdose. The free online class is available from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 and from 10-10:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. It will provide you the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in an overdose crisis and save a life. Anyone in Skagit County age 16+ can attend. Click to register.
