The Zephyr Point Centennial Celebration, held the weekend of September 20-22, 2024, was an unforgettable tribute to 100 years of ministry and community. After check-in and dinner, the festivities began with Dessert Under the Stars on the Tahoe Center lawn. Guests were treated to delicious desserts and coffee amidst a charming setting of candles and twinkle lights. The Western Nevada College Astronomy Department delivered an enlightening presentation, followed by stargazing through massive telescopes that revealed the beauty of the night sky and far away stars and galaxies.
Saturday was packed with fun activities, including a scavenger hunt, tie-dye workshops, Zephyr Point folklore, games, and refreshing root beer floats. The day concluded with an elegant banquet in Dobbins Hall, beautifully decorated for the occasion. There were a variety of presentations including memories from long-time cabin, guest group, and program guests, a historical presentation from Board Members and staff historian, a land acknowledgment from a member of the Washoe tribe, and a presentation of awards from the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly. We showcased Zephyr Point's rich 100-year history through an impressive display of photos, documents, and artifacts.
The weekend concluded on Sunday morning with a meaningful worship service, marking the culmination of Zephyr Point’s 100-year celebration and a blessing for the next century. The service included the dedication of a cross made from the original 4 Pillars in Donaldson Amphitheater. A beautiful choir accompanied sermons from three Board members, each emphasizing one of the core elements of Zephyr Point's mission: education, exploration, and inspiration. The offering collected was donated to the Washiw Zulshish Goom Tahn-Nu, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering leadership and healthy lifestyles for the Washoe people. After the service, everyone came together for a final picnic lunch on the Tahoe Lawn.
The weekend was a true celebration of Zephyr Point’s legacy. We are deeply grateful for the hard work and dedication of our Board Members and Zephyr Point staff, whose efforts made this celebration a remarkable success.
