October 2019
Hello Friends!
We are proud to announce that the City of Boca Raton has recently accepted our donation of $77,150 to the library to fund a mobile van which the library hopes to have ready for service in early 2020. The purpose of the van is to provide library materials, resources and services to residents without access to traditional library buildings due to mobility, transportation, and/or socio-economic limitations. Thank you to our members, donors and Bookstore customers for supporting our efforts through your membership fees and donations to help us fund this worthwhile project!
It's an exciting time to be a Friends member! In addition to the many free public events we host each year (sign up for currently open events below), we will be hosting some special events for members we hope you can attend.
On November 8th, we will be hosting our A
nnual Membership Meeting at the Friends Bookstore, including a special bookstore Members Only sale and wine/cheese reception. Members will be receiving an invitation to the meeting in the next few weeks.
The Friends have been taking an active role in the
Brightline/Virgin Trains proposal to build a train station in Boca. You have received previous emails from us on the matter, particularly due to the location on the Library parking lot. At the City Council meeting on September 24th, Brightline presented a scaled down version of what their current plans are for building a garage. The proposal to build residences and commercial enterprises has been put on the back burner for now. We will stay apprised of what is going on and keep you posted.
In the meantime, enjoy our art gallery exhibits at the Spanish River Library, shop at our bookstore, and read with one of our book clubs! See you at the library.
Sincerely,
Cyndi Bloom, Board President
Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library, Inc.
