Halloween Safety Campaign:
Kent Park and Recreation and the Kent Lions Club, in cooperation with the Kent Resident State Trooper, are partnering again this Halloween on the Kent Halloween Safety Campaign, featuring the distribution of "glow-in-the dark" necklaces.
Park and Recreation director Lesly Ferris and Resident State Trooper Andrew Fisher will distribute the necklaces October 31 starting at 5 p.m. on a first come, first serve basis until supply lasts on North Main Street, adjacent the Kent Memorial Library. Boo Bash:
Saturday, October 28, 4:30-6 p.m. for Kent youngsters ages 12 and under; featuring costume parade at 4:45 p.m. from Kent Common Park, Swifts Lane, with prizes for most creative, cutest, scariest, best in group of two or more and best overall; haunted hallway walk, bake sale, pumpkin decorating and candy corn guessing contest at the fire house. Sponsored by Kent Boys Scouts, Kent Center School PTO, Kent Park and Recreation and Kent Volunteer Fire Department.
Martial Arts Class: Kent Park and Recreation's Tang Soo Do class meets Mondays at the Kent
Community House. Ages 7 through adult meet from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. New session begins
October 23. Registration fee is $70/10-week session; additional family members are $50. Martial arts training has been shown to reduce stress, increase confidence, self-discipline, focus and respect in addition to the self-defense benefits. The class is sponsored by USA Martial Arts of Woodbury, a member of the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Karate Federation. Register at class.
Qigong Class: Kent Park and Recreation announces a new session of Qigong Class with
Christopher Kiely Wednesday mornings, October 4 through December 27, 9 to 10:30, at the
Kent Community House, North Main Street, Kent. The cost is $200 for the 13 classes or
$80/month ($20/class). Qigong is a classical method of self-healing rooted in the longevity tradition of old China. Combining gentle physical movement with calm meditative focus, qigong utilizes the principles of Chinese Medicine to bring a new dimension to the concept of "exercise." A few things for our Seniors
Friday Senior Lunch:
The program meets Fridays at the Kent Senior Center, Swifts Lane, and is open to Kent senior citizens at a cost of $2/person for lunch, which is served at noon. The center opens at 11:30 a.m. The program is sponsored by the Town of Kent in conjunction with Kent, Marvelwood and South Kent Schools and local restaurants. Reservations are not required.
Seasonal flu vaccination clinic:
October 11, 10 a.m.-11 a.m. for Kent senior citizens and 11 a.m. to noon for any age Kent resident at Kent Town Hall, first floor large meeting room. Insurance plans accepted are Aetna, Aetna Medicare Advantage, Blue Cross plans, Medicare, CT Anthem, Medi Blue, Connecticare and Connecticare Medicare Advantage. Bring a copy of your insurance card.
Registration forms and related information packet are available at the Kent Senior Center, Swifts Lane, and in the Kent Town Hall lobby. Senior Halloween Luncheon:
October 25 starting at noon at the Kent Senior Center, Swifts Lane. Menu is roast beef, cheddar mashed potatoes, butternut squash, orange layer cake. The suggested donation is $4, and reservations are required by calling 860-927-2055 by October 20. Halloween costumes are optional.
