Don't Miss Odessa Project Connect on July 29
Project Connect is coming to Odessa on Friday, July 29 at Odessa High School. Partner with HCC for a day of community service! Project Connect events are a day of public outreach designed to provide the underserved in our community with the health resources they need, free of charge. Providers gather to provide free services, including haircuts, dental extractions, mammograms, health screenings, and more.

Additionally, the Diagnostic Imaging Mammogram Unit will be there and have a grant to cover mammograms for women who are 40 and over and uninsured.

Service providers and volunteers are needed for the Odessa Project Connect on Friday, July 29. Organizations will help raise awareness of available community resources, help provide free services, and build connections within the community. Lafayette County Reaches Medium Threshold for COVID-19
Lafayette County has moved from the low to medium category on the CDC COVID-19 Tracker. When a county's data metrics meet the Medium level threshold the CDC suggests taking the following precautions:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms.
  • Wear a mask if you have symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19. Wear a mask on public transportation

You may choose to wear a mask at any time as an additional precaution to protect yourself and others. If you are at high risk for severe illness, consider wearing a mask indoors in public and taking additional precautions.

For questions, please contact the Lafayette County Health Department at 660.259.4371, option #4.

Protect Yourself and Your Family Against Long COVID
There are a variety of “long-haul” symptoms you can experience after having COVID-19 such as: brain fog, fatigue, weak muscles, mood changes and more. COVID-19 vaccines are the best way to protect your family against COVID-19 and post-COVID conditions, including long-haul COVID.
Community Readiness Survey
The Missouri Prevention Resource Centers are issuing a community readiness survey to learn what community members think about substance use and substance use prevention efforts.

Individuals in Compass Health Network Prevention Resource Center’s 29 county service areas are encouraged to participate. The survey is anonymous, however it is important for participants to select their county using the drop-down menu in the first question.

Feedback from people who do not do substance use prevention or treatment daily is extra helpful as the survey results will be used to guide future prevention planning.

Dementia Caregiving Support for Every Family
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, concern about developing Alzheimer’s is lower among Black (35%) and Hispanic (41%) Americans compared to white (48%) Americans. However, it is important to identify warning signs of dementia early on to prolong independence and comfort for loved ones living with dementia.

The Customized Caregiver Training and Relief Program offers caregiver support, even if families are not ready to enroll. For more information about dementia and caregiving support, contact the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at 800.272.3900 or visit mrhassociation.org/caregivers/.
