Events and Announcements in the Church

We want to share the Lenten Journey with you. Here are some ways to do that:



  • Regular 6:00pm mid-week Ecumenical Lenten Services and Soup Suppers (THANKS! FPC for hosting last week!). These take place at various downtown churches. Two more Wednesdays have been scheduled: March 11 at The Summit Church (FUMC); and March 25 at Christ the King Lutheran. No event will be held on March 18.

  • Have you been reading the "teaser" emails previewing the passages for the upcoming Sunday service? Click the link in the announcement below to see last week's Message from Pastor Beau if you missed it. New editions usually are sent out on Wednesdays (and a sneak peak a bit ahead of schedule is down below, too!).

  • Tuesday Night Teams (TNT) are a great way to get involved in the life of our congregation. The next one is tomorrow starting at 5:30pm with a brown bag supper. Followed by team meetings at 6:00pm when many the teams will meet. (Exceptions this month: Team Mission is meeting next Monday because of schedule conflicts; and Team Worship will start at 5:00pm tomorrow). Lent is a good time make you voice heard.

  • Don't forget our choir programs (bells and adults on Thursdays, and a choir for children's voices should be coming soon!).

  • The spring Better Together planning group for April 19 (Cleaning and Repairing Handicap Equipment) could use more helpers. Next organizational/planning meeting: tomorrow at 1:30pm in Westminster.

  • Christ is all over this place, and we are adding more opportunities for fellowship, learning, mission and discernment all the time. We prayerfully encourage you to join in wherever and whenever you are able. Make entering into this Lenten season another part of YOUR journey to open up your hearts to each other and to God!

Newcomb Mission Project Coming up
in June




Team Mission is planning a one-day work project with our sister church in Newcomb, NM on Saturday, June 6. At the church's request we will be helping to install gutters on the church building. Presently when it rains their septic system floods and backs up into the church. We hope to redirect the drain-off off with gutters, downspouts, and rain barrels.

Our FPC team will leave Durango early on Saturday morning (around 7:30am), drive to Newcomb (about 2 hours), and meet a crew from the church to install the gutters. We are supplying all of the material
s and will prepare lunch for the entire group. We plan to quit around 5:00pm and head home (leaving any remaining work for the Newcomb members to complete). We'll probably stop for dinner in Farmington on the way home.

Anyone who might be interested in helping please contact Elder Elliot Ott or Bill Postler soon so we can begin to get an approximate head count. We'll need folks to cut and join the gutter and downspout sections on the ground; folks to hang the gutters on the eaves (about 10 feet off the ground) and attach the downspouts; and folks to prepare the lunch and provide general support.

POP's (Presbyterian Outdoor Pursuits)

Plans for Early 2020

Come along for a great variety of adventures with a terrific group of friends throughout the year. We mainly focus on hiking and snowshoeing for our excursions but will include at least one weekend of camping during the year (see June dates below!).. Our first hikes of 2020 were really successful, and your organizers are focusing on building on those successes. Gary and Cathy Jones led us on a snowshoe hike near Molas Pass in January and Steve Parker and Geni Miller led the group above Little Molas Lake a few weeks ago.
 
We will be finalizing our plans for the second half of the year soon, but we have set dates for several adventures already. Please feel free to invite friends and family on any of these outings. 
 
The next outing will be March 21. It will be a favorite from the past in Sand Canyon Southwest of Cortez in the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.  Plan to meet at First Presbyterian at 8:45am, bring a lunch, water and rain gear. We will send out another date reminder soon.
 
The rest of our plans are as follows: 
 
April, no adventure
May 16 to be determined. Plan on going to spots near the Dolores River 
June 19 through 21: Camp and hike in the South San Juan Wilderness
July 18, TBD

MIKE TICHI AND HIS FAMILY TO REPORT ON THEIR MISSION PROJECT:
Care4Communities

Approximately 10 years ago our family and First Presbyterian Durango embarked on a journey to Roatan, Honduras. Our obedience to His calling produced the non-profit Care4Communities. C4C has continued to make a huge impact on this small impoverished island serving the youth in both education and sports. The presentation will take us on a journey from our early days of initiating a recycling project to teaching English, and more recently the community service projects coordinated by the youth of C4C. As an added bonus, Hector Ramos, our court director for the past 6 years, will be joining us to share his experiences on and off the court. Join us after the service to see how the seeds that we cast as a family and congregation have flourished.
