Offer input to shape development of new park
The City of Sierra Vista invites residents to offer input on what they would like to see featured in a new 28-acre community park that will be developed on the south side of Sierra Vista.
Tentatively named “Roadrunner Park,” the 28-acre site is bordered to the north by Garden Canyon Linear Park, to the west by St. Andrews Drive, to the south by Canyon De Flores, and to the east by Camino Bella Rosa. The City has owned about 12 acres of the site for many years and acquired the remaining 15 acres from the Sierra Vista Unified School District in 2021.
Residents can check out the space in person on Monday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, June 25, from 9 to 11 a.m. by heading to the parking lot located off St. Andrews Drive near Garden Canyon Linear Park Trail. Input can be provided at these in-person opportunities or by taking the online survey at Engage.SierraVistaAZ.gov.
“This location has the potential for a variety of recreational amenities and input from the public will lay the foundation for its development,” Sierra Vista Parks, Recreation, and Library Director Laura Wilson says.

Council okays IGA for law enforcement training academy
The Sierra Vista City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement between the City, Cochise College, and Cochise County Sheriff’s Office to continue partnering on the operation of the Southeastern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy at its regular meeting on Thursday.
Under the agreement, one SVPD officer may serve as a recruit training officer, while Cochise College agrees to reimburse the City for up to $11,800 in overtime for the officer while assigned to the academy. The college hosts the academy at its Douglas campus and SVPD allows the academy to use its defensive tactics room for training when needed.
Several council members voiced support for the academy based on its success in lowering the cost for local agencies to train recruits and because the recruits receive instruction from personnel working for local agencies. To date, 17 SVPD recruits have graduated from the academy, which began instruction in January 2019.
In other business:
· The City Council approved an amendment to the contract of the City Attorney’s annual base salary to correlate with the current market salary of the Cochise County Deputy Attorney.
· The City Council approved an update to the City Council Practice and Procedure Guidelines. The primary change was the addition of a contract review during the annual litigation update.

Extraordinary Activities
Beat the heat at The Cove’s wave pool with Open Swim available daily all summer long! Sierra Vista’s indoor aquatic center cranks up the waves during Open Swim Monday through Friday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from noon to 5:30 p.m. Enjoy a snack bar between dips in the pool, where the water is always a cool 82-85 degrees.

Uncommon Recreation
The Art Studio is splashing into summer with June's featured project: turtle bowls!
Featured projects cost $10 per project and include 1 pound of clay, instructions, and two visits to the studio. Turtle bowls can be made during any Art Studio open hours.

Most City facilities will be closed on Monday, June 20, for the Juneteenth holiday.
The Monday, June 20, trash pickup will shift to Tuesday and the Tuesday pickup will occur on Wednesday. No special pickups will be available on Wednesday. The City's trash pickup calendars were published prior to the new holiday's official adoption, so please update your calendar with this information.

The City’s registration and point of sale system for leisure programs and facilities will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to about noon on Wednesday, June 15, while an update is completed.
This will primarily impact leisure facility reservations and program registrations, which will be unavailable during the downtime. Cash, check, and manual credit card transactions will still be accepted for other services at the Oscar Yrun Community Center, Ethel H. Berger Center, and The Cove. Customers will also be unable to access the City’s WebTrac registration portal online during the downtime.
