Legislative Update from Senator Ned Claxton
Dear friend,

This week, we announced our "Fighting for Maine Agenda" and a town hall event that I will be holding in Auburn, along with Senate President Troy Jackson and Majority Leader Sen. Nate Libby. There will be a short presentation on our agenda for the coming legislative session, and then there will be an extended question and answer session.

I am also hosting office hours in Auburn on Oct. 23 at Kristi's Cafe, at noon. Bring your questions, comments, and grab some lunch! I hope to see you there.

As always, you can contact me by emailing me at [email protected], or by calling my office at (207) 287-1515.

Sincerely,
Fighting for Maine: Our promise to you
This session, my colleagues and I accomplished a lot for the people of this state. We took on pharmaceutical companies to lower drug costs and provided $130 million in direct property tax relief. I'm proud of what we achieved. But we still have work to do. Maine people are counting on us.

Too many Mainers still feel like they've been left behind as they struggle to make ends meet, navigate a broken health care system or care for their aging parents. They're tired of false promises from politicians and they want results. We believe that it's time for an agenda that puts Mainers first - one that fights to build a stronger state that works for Maine families, workers, businesses and communities. That's why I've joined with my colleagues to put together the Fighting for Maine Agenda. We will be holding a town hall to introduce the agenda and answer your questions in Auburn at City Hall, on Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The Fighting for Maine Agenda includes:
✓ Fixing our broken health care system
✓ Standing up for Maine workers and businesses
✓ Providing property tax relief
✓ Protecting Maine families
✓ Continuing proud Maine traditions
✓ Working toward energy independence

This agenda has some bold objectives, and it lays out the bold proposals that will get us there. The bottom line is this: We have a plan and we won't stop fighting for you until we deliver. Learn more at:  www.fightingformaine.com

A conversation about my time in the Legislature
I recently got the opportunity to discuss my time so far in the Legislature, and my transition from being a family doctor to a State Senator. I touch on my priorities as a legislator and what I would like to accomplish in the coming session!

My latest column
This month in my Twin City Times column, I discussed why being available to my constituents is so important to me. I have always looked up to elected officials who made availability a priority. It's why when I decided to run for office, I vowed that if elected, I would do the same. Read an online version of my column this month here.

State YMCA Maine Youth in Government Program
Young folk's participation in government is critical. For many, however, the inner workings of the Legislature can seem confusing and out of reach. Luckily, the  State YMCA Maine Youth in Government Program offers high school students an opportunity to participate in a real-life legislative experience. Students from all over the state who participate in the program will have an opportunity to choose from different roles, such as Senator, Representative, Lobbyist or Reporter, receive leadership training, and participate in a legislative session at the State House using the House and Senate chambers, as well as the committee rooms.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to experience the work that actually takes place in the State House, advocate for issues they care about and participate in a valuable learning opportunity. To get involved, contact Director Lonney Steeves at (207) 377-9686, or by email at [email protected] .
