October 27, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We hope this e-mail finds you well and that you were able to join us for our Memorial Mass this morning. As we approach our long weekend, here are a few announcements from the Office for Academic Affairs:
Friday, October 30th - Catch-Up Day and
November 2nd - Professional Development Day
There will be no classes on Friday, October 30th or Monday, November 2nd. Students should utilize this time to catch up on any work they may have missed from the First Quarter and to prepare for any end-of-quarter assignments they might have. No new assignments will be given on Friday or Monday, however, teachers may assign due dates for Monday night for work assigned prior to the long weekend.
Please utilize this time to get yourself prepared for the end of the Marking Period….and to REST!
Also, please note: As we conveyed at the start of the school year, the calendar days do NOT change if an “unplanned” day out of school such as this Friday is inserted. Tuesday, November 3rd will still remain a “B” Day. The calendar will be updated to list out days through the remainder of the first semester early next week.
First Quarter Testing Cycle
At the end of each quarter, Archbishop Carroll creates a Testing Cycle for all classes. During this six-day period, teachers are only permitted to give a full-period assessment on the day(s) assigned to their subject area. Regular homework, projects and presentations, and quizzes may still be assigned on any day.
For this First Quarter Cycle, we have adjusted the days to allow for each subject area to have back-to-back days for testing so that they may test each of their sections separately if they wish. The First Quarter Testing Cycle is as follows:
- Thursday, November 5th and Friday, November 6th - Science, Social Studies, Health & PE, BCIT
- Monday, November 9th and Tuesday, November 10th - World Language, Fine Arts, Theology
- Wednesday, November 11th and Thursday, November 12th - Math, ELA
- Friday, November 13th is the last day of the First Quarter and is not part of the testing cycle. This day is available to teachers to administer make-up tests if necessary.
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences
P-T-S Conference will be offered by appointment only, and virtually, during the week of November 23rd. Look for more information coming shortly!
The First Quarter has been a great challenge for you, your children, and our faculty and staff, and one that we have all worked to meet head-on. We look forward to working with all of you as we move forward to continue to make the very best of our current environment.
Sincerely,
