Starting with applications received on or after September 25, 2024, NIAID will limit the total number of predoctoral and/or postdoctoral training slots to a maximum of 8 trainee slots/training grant in any given year for the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grant (Parent T32) or any reissuance of this funding opportunity as an operational accommodation due to budgetary constraints. This is for both competitive and non-competitive T32 grants.

The G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Foundation Research Grants – Limited Submission |
The Development Office would like to share guidelines for the Fall 2024 Mathers Foundation grant cycle. Our institution may nominate up to 3 applicants in basic science.
Submit your project proposals by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024.
Please note the Development team will handle all LOI submissions. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to institutionalgiving@montefiore.org.
The G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Foundation Research Grants – Limited Submission
-
Due: October 4, 2024 (LOI)
-
Amount: $600,000-$700,000 over 3 years, including 10% indirect rate
-
“The mission of The G. Harold and Leila Y. Mathers Foundation is to advance knowledge in the life sciences by sponsoring scientific research that will benefit mankind. Basic scientific research, with potential translational application, is central to this goal, and fundamental to our operating principles.” While the foundation is interested in translational applications, the focus of the proposal should be in basic science. The research should demonstrate potential for significant breakthroughs in the field. Proposals should be high risk/high reward and show a new direction from the PI’s prior efforts. Areas of interest include: Immunology, microbiome, genomics, structural biology, cellular physiology, neuroscience.
- The foundation will not fund COVID-19 research, medical imaging, electrical engineering technology, or plant biology. The foundation also will not fund clinical trials, drug discovery or pre-clinical drug development. Previously declined LOIs/proposals may not be resubmitted. Renewal requests are discouraged. Renewal requests must focus on new directions, “not merely an extension of previously funded research.” Applications with pending federal approval are not given priority.
-
Eligibility: To be competitive, the PI must have an independent laboratory, and have a history of “impactful discoveries” and published research studies to share in the LOI phase. While not required, it is recommended that the PI be tenured or in a tenure-track position.
-
Selection Process: The Einstein Awards Committee will select up to 3 applicants. PIs should not register in the grant portal until the committee’s decisions are communicated (in mid-September). All LOI submissions must go through the Development Office. If the foundation receives more than 3 submissions from our institution, all Einstein proposals will be disqualified.
-
PIs should provide a one page project summary using the template attached, and their CV/biosketch, to institutionalgiving@montefiore.org by 5:00 p.m. on August 23. If you have any questions about the foundation or the application process, please contact institutionalgiving@montefiore.org.

Innovation Matching Grants Program |
Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology, and Innovation (“NYSTAR”), Innovation Matching Grants Program (the “IMG Program”) aims to grow small businesses and support the development of new technologies in New York State by providing matching funds for federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants.
The New York State Innovation Matching Grants Program will match:
The award for Phase I applicants, not to exceed $100,000.
The award for Phase II applicants, not to exceed $200,000.
and provide technical assistance resources for Phase II and Phase III awards.
In no event, shall the funding provided from the IMG Program exceed 50% of the federal award. A funding commitment made through the IMG Program demonstrates New York State support to strengthen certain proposals, increase the likelihood that New York State businesses will be awarded competitive federal SBIR/STTR funding, and supports the growth of promising small businesses in New York. Equity in Access Research Grants |
LLS has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for its Equity in Access Research Program, which is aimed at funding research in health services. LLS is reissuing their RFP that aims to increase the number of patients who participate in therapeutic cancer clinical trials by promoting access for underrepresented groups. Awards will be a maximum of $2.5 million each over 5 years.
In particular, LLS is in search of proposals that will implement and evaluate interventions that are designed to:
- Mitigate multilevel barriers to therapeutic clinical trial accrual for underrepresented groups
- Quantitatively measure the impact of these interventions on patient accrual
Proposals that address systemic, institutional, and clinician-related barriers that impede clinical trial participation are of particular interest to us. It is not necessary for applicants to have previously conducted research in blood cancer.
Letters of Intent must be submitted by September 12, 2024 at 3pm ET.
Visit LLS.org/EquityinAccess for the RFP and additional information. If you have any inquiries, please contact researchprograms@lls.org.

Pancreatic Cancer Foundation | Robert L Fine Cancer Research Foundation |
The Robert L. Fine Cancer Research Foundation has announced an upcoming funding opportunity in basic and translational pancreatic cancer research. The grant is for $250,000 in direct costs over a two year period. The award is targeted at new and recently established physicians and/or scientists who are dedicated to innovative translational research that would be deemed too risky for funding from conventional government sources. The deadline for the application is August 31st, 2024 and further details for grant submission can be found at www.rlfcrf.org.
If there are any questions, please contact the foundation at grants@rlfcrf.org.

Elsa U. Pardee Foundation cancer research grants |
Amount: $150,000 for 1 year
Deadline: August 31, 2024
The foundation funds innovative approaches to identifying new treatments or cures for cancer. Projects are for a one-year period to allow the establishment of capabilities of new cancer researchers or new cancer approaches by established cancer researchers. It is anticipated that this early-stage funding may lead to subsequent and expanded support using government agency funding. Project relevance to cancer detection, treatment, or cure should be clearly identified. Grant amount requested must be reasonable and clearly supported by the scope of the project outlined in the application. The Foundation particularly welcomes innovative, small-scale, short-term projects which may be difficult to fund elsewhere until some interesting results are obtained.
Priority is given to researchers who are new to the field of cancer research, or to established research investigators examining new approaches to cancer.
