Hevolution Foundation/AFAR New Investigator Awards in Aging Biology and Geroscience Research |
• Due: July 15, 2024 (LOI)
• Amount: $375,000/3 years
The program provides flexible support for research projects in basic biology of aging, as well as geroscience (projects that translate advances in basic research on aging biology from the laboratory to the clinic.) The projects should focus on understanding the basic mechanisms of aging rather than disease-specific research. Projects investigating age-related diseases or functional disorders are supported only if approached from the point of view of how basic aging processes may lead to disease outcomes. Projects that deal strictly with clinical problems such as the diagnosis or treatment of disease, health outcomes, or the social context of aging are not eligible.
Eligibility: Junior investigators (MDs and/or PhDs) with at least 3 years of independent research. Must be no more than 12 years beyond the start of postdoctoral research training as of July 15, 2024. Must have published at least 3 last author research papers in an international peer reviewed journal from independent work carried out in your own lab. Investigators who may not have previously worked in the area of aging, but whose research interests and expertise are relevant and could lead to discoveries or new understanding in the biology of aging or geroscience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease - Burroughs Wellcome Fund |
LOI Deadline: July 18, 2024 @ 3 pm
Amount: $505,000/5 years
The Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease (PATH) program provides opportunities for assistant professors to bring multidisciplinary approaches to studying human infectious diseases. The program aims to provide accomplished investigators at the assistant professor level with opportunities to study what happens at the points where the systems of humans and potentially infectious agents connect. The program supports research that sheds light on the fundamentals that affect the outcomes of these encounters: how colonization, infection, commensalism, and other relationships play out at levels ranging from molecular interactions to systemic ones. The program intends to give recipients the freedom and flexibility to pursue new avenues of inquiry, stimulating higher-risk research projects that hold potential for significantly advancing our understanding of how infectious diseases work and how health is maintained. BWF encourages submissions from those working in protozoan and metazoan parasites, protists, and fungi. Viral, bacterial, immune, and multi-species work is likewise encouraged. Work related to malaria, tuberculosis, and AIDS is appropriate for this program. BWF encourages submissions focusing on climate change and its impact on the pathogenesis of infectious disease and human health. BWF particularly encourages human health-relevant applications from veterinary scientists.
Eligibility: Candidates who will be promoted to Associate Professor by November 14, 2024, are not eligible to apply. The ideal candidate is an accomplished investigator at the mid-to-late assistant professor level with an established record of independent research in a tenure-track position or its well-supported equivalent in non-tenure offering departments. Candidates must have an established record of independent research. Citizens and non-citizen permanent and temporary residents of the U.S. and Canada who are legally qualified to work in the U.S. or Canada are eligible.

Innovation Matching Grants Program |
Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology, and Innovation (“NYSTAR”), Innovation Matching Grants Program (the “IMG Program”) aims to grow small businesses and support the development of new technologies in New York State by providing matching funds for federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants.
The New York State Innovation Matching Grants Program will match:
The award for Phase I applicants, not to exceed $100,000.
The award for Phase II applicants, not to exceed $200,000.
and provide technical assistance resources for Phase II and Phase III awards.
In no event, shall the funding provided from the IMG Program exceed 50% of the federal award. A funding commitment made through the IMG Program demonstrates New York State support to strengthen certain proposals, increase the likelihood that New York State businesses will be awarded competitive federal SBIR/STTR funding, and supports the growth of promising small businesses in New York. Equity in Access Research Grants |
LLS has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for its Equity in Access Research Program, which is aimed at funding research in health services. LLS is reissuing their RFP that aims to increase the number of patients who participate in therapeutic cancer clinical trials by promoting access for underrepresented groups. Awards will be a maximum of $2.5 million each over 5 years.
In particular, LLS is in search of proposals that will implement and evaluate interventions that are designed to:
- Mitigate multilevel barriers to therapeutic clinical trial accrual for underrepresented groups
- Quantitatively measure the impact of these interventions on patient accrual
Proposals that address systemic, institutional, and clinician-related barriers that impede clinical trial participation are of particular interest to us. It is not necessary for applicants to have previously conducted research in blood cancer.
Letters of Intent must be submitted by September 12, 2024 at 3pm ET.
Visit LLS.org/EquityinAccess for the RFP and additional information. If you have any inquiries, please contact researchprograms@lls.org.
