Pearl City Makes History
Pearl City was recently honored at the City's MLK Jr. Day event as Boca Raton’s first National Register Historic District. Founded in 1915—ten years before the city’s official incorporation—Pearl City was established to give Black pioneers the opportunity to own property. Today, Pearl City stands as a proud symbol of resilience and community. The efforts of the Boca Raton Historical Society and Developing Interracial Social Change (DISC), helped earn the distinction.
Learn more about the history of Pearl City by visiting Boca Raton Historical Society's online exhibit.

Heads Up Boca! Rip Current Safety
Be sure to stay safe while enjoying Boca Raton's beautiful beaches. Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that pull away from shore. They can form quickly and can carry even experienced swimmers out to sea. If you are caught in one, follow these steps:
-
Stay calm: Panicking can lead to exhaustion.
-
Float and conserve energy: Let the current carry you without fighting it.
-
Swim parallel to shore: Once out of the current, swim at an angle back to the beach.
-
Signal for help: If you can’t escape, wave your arms and call for assistance.
-
Never swim alone: Always stay near a lifeguard and check beach conditions BEFORE entering the water.
View the National Weather Serivces's brochure for more information and illustrations. And before you head out to the beach, be sure to check out the City's Beach Conditions webpage.
