Meet Your New City Manager: George S. Brown
The City of Boca Raton is pleased to announce the appointment and promotion of George S. Brown as your new City Manager. A City of Boca Raton employee for 45 years, and resident since 1976, George brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. In his new role, George will oversee all aspects of running a full-service City of 100,000+ residents, managing nearly 1,800 City employees across eight departments, including Police and Fire Rescue Services, Municipal and Utility Services. In addition, he will oversee the City’s management of 49 parks, community events, its financially secure position and “AAA” bond rating, and permitting, planning & zoning, code enforcement and all Development Services. Congratulations!

Happy Retirement to Leif Ahnell
After an impressive total of 33 years with the City of Boca Raton and 24 years as City Manager, Leif Ahnell retired on December 31, 2023. Under his leadership, Boca Raton has overcome challenges, achieved significant progress, and has shaped the city into a vibrant coastal community offering world-class municipal services and a well-planned path to a sustainable future.
Thank you, Leif, for your outstanding service; your legacy will endure, and you will be greatly missed by your employees and the community. View a video in recognition of Leif's tenure during the final Council Meeting of 2023.

Congratulations to the 2023 RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl Winner - University of South Florida!
Congratulations to USF for winning the 10th Annual Roofclaim.com Boca Raton Bowl! USF dominated the game with a final score of 45-0 against Syracuse University. We hope both teams and their fans, family, and friends enjoyed their time in Boca Raton.
And congratulations to Battalion Chief Scott Ward of Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services for being recognized at the Boca Raton Bowl in the 2023 SERVPRO Honor a First Responder Program.

Water System Disinfection Program and Fire Hydrant Flushing to Begin
To maintain the water quality of the City's water system, our Utility Services Department will temporarily modify the disinfection process used by the water treatment facility for a two-week period beginning on Sunday, January 21 and ending on Sunday, February 4. Customers served by the City's Utility Services may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor in the tap water during this period.
The City will flush fire hydrants during this period as well. Customers may notice flowing water in streets and swales, localized lower water pressures and a slight discoloration of their tap water.

Heads Up Boca! Lock Your Cars
This year, 57% of the vehicles stolen in the city were left unlocked, and in 58% of the cases, the keys or key FOBs were left inside. This type of crime is occurring all over the region, and together, we can drive these numbers down.
Boca Raton Police Services reminds you take keys, key FOBs, personal property, and garage door clickers out of your vehicle and lock the doors. If you see a suspicious person or vehicle in your neighborhood, call them at 561-368-6201.

CERT Training with Fire Rescue
Would you know what to do if a hurricane, flood, or disaster were to strike? Become better prepared with Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training from our Fire Rescue Services team. The goal is to better prepare our community in case of natural or man-made disasters. The FEMA based course will teach you how to help yourselves and your neighbors in case of an emergency, when Police, Fire or EMS may not be able to respond immediately.
The FREE course is 8 weeks long, with one 3-hour evening class per week. Must be a City resident and at least 16 years old. Classes start February 21. Learn More.

Outdoor Events - A number of park pavilions of various sizes can be reserved at six different parks in the City. Learn more.

Recycle Your Christmas Tree
The City's Christmas tree recycling program will run through Jan. 21, 2024.
Residents can drop off their “clean” Christmas trees at Countess de Hoernle Park (1000 Spanish River Blvd, southern end of the parking lot next to the maintenance area). Recreation Services will pick up the trees and chip them into mulch to be used at the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. View drop-off times and other details.

Tree Giveaway - January 15
Pick up a free native or fruiting tree to plant in your yard at the City's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event at Mizner Park Amphitheater on January 15.

January 19th is Florida Arbor Day
Did you know that the City of Boca Raton has been a Tree City USA for 44 consecutive years? The City also received a Growth Award in 2023 which recognizes our commitment to protecting and enhancing tree canopy, with contributing factors like our ongoing partnership with Community Greening on residential tree giveaways and our ecological restoration work in the beachfront parks with the Institute for Regional Conservation.
