The 2021-22 school year for Palm Beach County schools begins on Tuesday, August 10. Here's everything you need to know to prepare:
- When purchasing your school supplies, take advantage of Florida Back to School Sales Tax week July 31 - August 9.

O5C School Update: O5C is scheduled to open to 1,000 students in August 2022 and will feature a three-story building for classrooms, a two-story building for administration and media center, and a one-story building for the cafeteria as well as science and art labs.

Palmetto Park Road El Rio Canal Bridge Project Begins August 2
The Palmetto Park Road El Rio Canal Bridge Project, overseen by Palm Beach County Road and Bridge, will begin on August 2, 2021. The project is estimated to take 15 months, with an expected completion date in September/October 2022. Though sections of the bridge will be demolished, one lane in each direction will be open to traffic at all times. Learn more on the Road Projects page.

Updated Brightline Site Plan Coming This Month
At the July 27 City Council Meeting, Ordinances 5587 and 5588 pertaining to an updated site plan and expenditures for the Brightline station and parking garage were introduced. These ordinances will be discussed at the August 23 City Council Workshop.
As a reminder, Brightline trains will continue to be present on the tracks from Miami to West Palm Beach in the coming weeks for ongoing testing, traveling at top speeds of 79 mph. Trains will adhere to quiet zones and will not sound horns in designated areas. Pedestrians, motorists and cyclists, please be safe around trains and crossings.

New Parking Zone Coming to Sanborn Square
A new parking meter zone near Sanborn Square is scheduled for August 2021. The new zone will include NE 1st Ave, East Boca Raton Rd, NE 2nd St (in front of the Post Office), and the City's Post Office Lot at the corner of NE 2nd St and NE Mizner Blvd. For more details, rates and payment options, visit Downtown Boca Easy Parking. |

Here are some projects that are currently in progress:

Park renovations and projects continue at Pine Breeze Park, Hidden Lake Park Pavilion, Spanish River Park Restrooms, Woodlands Park, Wildflower Park, and most recently, work began on the Hughes Park Playground Renovation on July 12.
- New traffic signal mast arms are coming to intersections around the city. A couple were recently completed at:
- Palmetto Park Rd. & NW/SW 12th Ave.
- Palmetto Park Rd. & St Andrews Blvd.

Traffic signal mast arms are also being painted around the City in 59 locations. 10 more intersections were recently completed.

Brant Drive will be closed from Oregon Lane to Avocet Road beginning Monday, August 2 and will remain closed during the Brant Drive Bridge Replacement Project by FDOT over the C-15 canal. Please follow the provided detour outlined in the Project Flyer.

New Florida Bike Law in Effect
Beginning July 1, 2021, new bicycle regulations went into effect in the state of Florida. These new regulations apply to all bicyclists and change how bicyclists ride on City streets.
Among the new rules are:
- Cyclists can only ride two abreast in a bike lane if it is wide enough to fit both riders and clearly designated by pavement markers and signs that it is a bike lane.
- Riders two abreast is also allowed if the bike lane is separated from traffic by a physical barrier.
- Otherwise, all bicyclists must now ride single file and as close as possible to the curb or edge of the roadway to give passing traffic a minimum of three feet to pass.
- Cyclists may only ride more than two abreast if riding on a designated bike path.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is Now Open
All of Gumbo Limbo Nature Center's property will reopen to the public beginning Monday, August 2 at 12pm. Visitors will be welcomed onsite to visit the Aquariums, Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility, Nature Center, Gift Shop and all trails. New hours of operation are:
- Nature Center, Sea Turtle Rehabilitation, and Aquariums
- Tuesday - Sunday: 9am - 4pm
- Monday: 12pm - 4pm
- Nature Trails
- Sunday - Saturday: 7am - Sunset

The City of Boca Raton has completed a tree canopy assessment that found that our City's current tree canopy is 26.5%.
According to the assessment, YOU can help the City increase the canopy to 28% by 2041. Private properties have a huge potential to help the City meet this goal.
