Heads Up Boca! Move Over... It's the Law

The City is dedicated to ensuring that our roads are safe for all, especially when it comes to sharing them with fire trucks, other emergency response vehicles, or any disabled vehicle.

The FLORIDA MOVE OVER LAW requires drivers to move over a lane or slow down to 20 MPH below the speed limit when near emergency vehicles on the road. If you are on a road where the speed limit is 20 MPH or less, you are required to slow down to 5 MPH.

NEW! The LAW was recently expanded and now requires motorists to move over for non-emergency vehicles as well. Move over if:

  • There is a stopped disabled vehicle warning lights or hazard lights on.
  • There is a stopped disabled vehicle stopped using emergency flares or signage.
  • There is a stopped vehicle, and one or more people are present.

Does the City have a safe place for online marketplace exchanges?

Selling or buying something from someone else online? Nervous about making the transaction? Consider using the parking lot at the Boca Raton Police Department (100 NW Boca Raton Blvd.), which is a Safe Exchange Zone.

  • For additional peace of mind, you can also call 561-368-6201 and ask for a Police Officer to stand by while you complete your sale or purchase.

  • The Safe Exchange Zone and Police Officer presence is also available for family custody exchanges.
