City Council Approves 2019-2020 Final Budget with No Increase to Tax Rate

The Boca Raton City Council approved the 2019-2020 budget at its final Budget Hearing on September 23, 2019. The total operating budget is $526.3 million, and the millage rate will stay the same as last year: 3.68. Boca Raton continues to have one of the lowest property tax rates for a full-service city in the state of Florida.

Virgin Trains USA Proposes Station & Garage in Downtown

At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, Virgin Trains USA (VTUSA) representatives gave a second presentation on the proposed train station and parking garage on the site of the current community garden and downtown library parking lot. New details emerged as representatives presented a summary of plans and reviewed their discussions with stakeholders including neighbors, the Friends of the Library and the Junior League of Boca Raton. At Mizner Bark Dog Park on Saturday, October 5 at 10am - 2pm, this FREE event will feature food vendors for pets and pet parents, a mobile grooming station, pet adoptions, canine performers and a costume contest!

Sanitation Operations Expanding; Hiring New Team Members

After considering the possibility of outsourcing sanitation services to a private hauler earlier this year, the City Council recommitted its support for expanding sanitation services. New curbside sanitation rates go into effect October 1, 2019. Learn more on the City's website.

Tree City first tree giveaway was a success!
The City's sustainability efforts continued on September 28 with their first ever FREE tree giveaway with their partner Community Greening. Trees went fast in a successful event where the City added 100 trees to our urban canopy and provided residents with trees that will benefit them for years to come!
Intracoastal cleanup takeaway
At International Coastal Cleanup on September 21, over 600 pounds of trash were collected from Boca Raton beaches.

Crazy Uncle Mike's is the newest restaurant to join the Coastal Connection family. They're offering metal straws for sale to their patrons with proceeds going to Friends of Gumbo Limbo.

Spanish River Blvd. Intracoastal Waterway Bridge Project

The Spanish River Boulevard Intracoastal Waterway Bridge will have four weekends of full lane closures in October as the Spanish River Boulevard Bridge Painting Project (overseen by the Florida Department of Transportation) continues. Eastbound lanes will be closed Oct. 5 - 7 & Oct. 19 - 21. Westbound lanes will be closed Oct. 12 - 14 & Oct. 26 - 28.
